car smells lik gas

car smells lik gas

jus got the car and when i test drove it was fine then as i was driving it home on i-10 i started to smell gas it comes and goes but leaves a strong odor what could be the symptoms for this? never had a 240 before its a 1995 240 sx/se please all comments are welcome thank you

well obviously you should check the fuel lines, then the injectors...

it cold be somthing in the trunk b/c the pump is in the trunk. the gasket could be bad.

ANy mods to the car? I know when I had an exhaust leak and i would coast in gear from a high RPM or take off hard, It would smell pretty bad in my car.

nu uh its a stock s14 you mentioned the pump being in the trunk area where exactly is it and can i jus replace the gasket on the pump?

In the trunk... on the passenger's side, under the carpet... cant miss it.

hmm looked in the trunk and lifted carpet up onli see rubber plugs could it be located at the hump? between the trunk space and back seats? also the injectors and other lines are not loose cant even smell fuel on them

no cracks on the rubber lines?

fuel only flow thru certain places. best thing i can think of is just trace the fuel line under the car and in the engine bay while sniffing around with the motor running. use caution when doing so of course. last thing i could think of is the charcoal canister and vaccum/vapor hoses.

Yes, the pump is between the trunk and back seats, the easiest way to get to it is to fold down the seat back and pull up the carpet. You then will see a metal cover that needs to be removed, and under that is a circular cover, which is where the gasket is.
