Clutch pedal problem

When I first bought my sons 92 240sx,I was turning around and the tranny didnt want to go into reverse...I placed the edge of my shoe under the pedal and 'seemed' to pull it up a couple of inches.....I never was sure if I was actually pushing the pedal all the way down,as its much different from my Camaro...anyway,this weekend, while my son was driving,it did this again....now I am positive I pulled the pedal up....clutch cylinder looks new, fluid is full...clutch does/has always felt a little 'mushy' but didnt know if this was normal for these cars.....what do you 'experts' suggest?...:>)

try bleeding the system, if that doesn't work I had the same symptoms when my withdrawal lever came off the release bearing... you can check that by getting under the car and pushing the part of the lever on the outside of the tranny bell housing back and forth to see if there's any abnormal movement. Also reach under the master cylinder for the clutch and see if it's wet at all from a leak~ sometimes you can't see it but you'll feel the fluid if it is leaking

Thanks for the suggestions...there is no leak..reservoir was full when I bought the car and still is....the problem only happened twice, over a month apart....I have decided to replace the clutch and all related components...:>)
