Got a cone filter from cosmo racing. Thing went on easy enough - seal is tight and the filter is secure.

However to put it on I had to take off a vacuum hose from my air box. The hose led to a smaller black box next to my power steering and then from the box to the underside of the engine where I cant see what its attached to. Can anyone tell me what this hose does and if it is safe to just leave it open?

If not, does anyone have any recommendations for rigging it? I figured I would cut out a piece of the old filter and wrap it on the end, but the hose might not have enough suction to pull air through the filter.

 

You're talking about the AIV, just go ahead and remove it. Search for AIV and you will get a lot, or just click on this link and there is a walkthrough with pics, I did it and turned out great, car runs better.
