Question Crank - No Start/rough Start

Hey guys, roger here.

i just changed my water pump yesturday everything went good. then i went to start it. it cranked but wouldn't start. then my friend point at something that wasn't connected. -_- forget the name. so i connected it and went to start again, cranked, started, then shut off a few seconds later. hmmm, interesting at this point. started it again, gave it some gas, a puff of white smoke came out, then idled fine. drove her around the block to make sure everything was good then back in my drive way. left her there for about 30 min. changed to grab something to eat. started it and did the same thing again, shut off a few seconds later. started it again, gave it some gas and idled fine... again. my friend noticed some white smoke again. he drove behind so he could see if anymore white smoke would come out, but nothing, no somke.

this morning i had class so i start her up fine but idle in the first few seconds jumped a bit between 800-1000 then was fine. after class i walked to the parking lot and started her up. crank but no start. did it again, crank but no start. third time cranked started a bit, gave it some gas then idled fine again. very odd at this point. didn't notice smoke at this point.

i am concerned as to what coul d be causing this crank - no start/rough start problem of mine.

any help would be mucho appreciated.

sounds like it could be a vaccuum problem or electrical, are you sure everything is hooked up correctly? any loss of power once it is running?

she did it again. after i got into work and got out like about 4 hours. the engine is cold of course. i started her up and just wouldn't start. crank but no start. then i tried it again. crank but no start then i gased a lot brought it up to 4k for about 5 seconds and it was fine.

this is really starting to bother me. i am worried and would like to get this problem fixed as soon as possible. i need more help guys please.

like i mentioned in my reply eariler ^ could it be thermostat like my friend said. if it is then should i just replace it with an OEM or NISMO thermo? anything about cleaning the MAF also? if so how would i go about doing this?

(still a noob here)

thanks guys.

it isn't your thermostat...

If it ran good before the water pump, and now you are having problems, I'm willing to bet you didn't hook up something correctly on the reinstall.

Look in the Factory Service Manual for Cold Start problems, it will be in the EC section.

well it was bogging before the water pump before but it would start.

so that may have been the starting of what is happening to it right now.

Check the FSM

Check your fuel pressure as well.

I had a problem like this on my first 240. This was before I started working on cars myself so I took it to a dealership for repair. They said I had a clogged fuel line.
