Custom Air Box

Well, i was bored yesterday so I decided to mess around with my stock intake. Reading on some intake articles, I read that stock intakes on 240s have a split pipe in order to quiet the sound of the intake since it is a very large 4-banger engine. Well, I wanted to hear something from my engine, so I took off that mangled Y-pipe. Here's a pic. You can see one of the holes the split pipe was coming from.
No Split Pipe

I started him up and well, I could hear something. However, I wanted the intake to breathe a little more easily, so I took the whole bottom end of the stock air box and cut all of the bottom save for the filter holder and the clips. Now there is a lot more room for air to enter without that restrictive hole and Y-pipe. Here are two pics.

Cutting the box was a pain. All I had was one blade and a lighter. I used the lighter to soften the plastic of the air box. I drew where I would cut and followed the outline. It took forever. I even got a nice 3 inch cut across my leg because the blade slipped when I was sliding it out and it hit my leg. Ouch, I'd rather not post pics of the cut, unless you all ask, lol. Anyways, in the end I used some wire cutters and cut through that damn plastic.

Performance-wise, it feels a lot better. It also sounds a lot better. It sounds a whole lot deeper than before. You can also hear the engine sucking in the air. It's nice knowing that big 2.4L 4-banger is breathing a whole lot better through a bigger hole than through two small mangled pipes, lol. I know it ain't much of a performance mod, but hey, I like it. Lol.
