gas mileage

i just got a 93 240 with about 97,000 miles on it.. i love the car the only problem is i only get 250 miles to a full tank (surely thats not normal). there are no modifications done to the car. i dont know much about cars so are there any simple things i could do to make the gas mileage better? or do i need to add an intake or something like that

thanks for the help

it depends on a few things, mostly, how you drive. if you drive like you stole it, then yes you will have poor gas mileage.

have you done any basic maintinance to it? like replacing the spark plugs, fuel filter, oil change, stuff like that alone will improve your mileage

I have the SR20DET and its untunned at the moment, its getting just over 200 miles per tank.

its a 15.9 gallon tank, so make sure your fuel guage isnt off (like many 240's). i get about 24/28 shifting at 3k and normal driving habits. it helps if youre not blowing the ac all the time. get new plugs and wires, run some seafoam in the tank and make sure youre aiv valve isnt clogged and your air filter is still good. check alignment, tire pressure too. also windows up at freeway speeds can help. cruise ciontrol also saves gas. im a student, i know all the gas saving tricks hehe.

yea im serious, what are you doing tonight? you probably live close by. If you want to meet up.

Its about 50 miles to every 1/4 tank. so that should give ya an idea.. then again i just got everything done and its tuned with an MBC too.. not to mention its running pig rich as well. I dont have any lights on so thats good, so ill have to get it all tuned.

Or you could just refer to my post and actually fix your car. You should definately be well over 300 to a tank, even with a heavy foot.

Yeah, even for the SR. Coolant sensor is interchangable with any USDM SR20DE, O2 is same as an '87 turbo Z31 I believe. I can't vouch for the O2 since I just payed a little more and got one from phase2, but I am running a SR20DE coolant sensor.

full tune up and have the fuel system sucked out and cleaned. runs about 75 bucks to clean the fuel system.
