Hey guys, here's the deal, I plan on purchasing a 1993 240SX SE pretty soon, and was just wondering how strong the KA24DE engine is, the motor currently has 200,700 miles on it, and he's selling the vehicle itself for 2300, the exterior is in perfect condition, and there's nothing really wrong with the car since it has been serviced. I know this is a very general question, but how long do 240's generally last? Thanks

Yeah, I figured the price was high as well... he originally wanted 2500 for the car. Oh, and he is also throwing in a sound system that came with the car, other then that, the car is completely stock. What would you think is a reasonable price? Keep in mind that th exterior and interior is in perfect condition and maintenance was done to the vehicle as well as new parts replaced.

 

One other thing, the kbb.com value says the vehicle is worth around 2,500 in perfect condition. Which should I trust, edmunds.com or kbb.com? And I do believe that the 240sx is a rare car, so therefore I understand why he would want a little more for the vehicle. Also, it is basically one owner, he bought the car brand new in 1994 with 9,000 miles on it.

 

that seems reasonable. go for it. also is the car 5speed? coupe, fastback or convertible? post some pics when you get it too.

my car has 225 on it and is in pretty good shape and wasn't take care of that well before i bought it if that helps. my boss is the original owner of a 89 and his has 319 on it and it's still running strong.

 

i guess its how you take care of the engine maintenance and everything. unless something in your engine has its time to give up and not run again. theres always time for an engine swap if all else fails.

 

i can tell you now that the car isnt in perfect condition..whether the exterior is looking great or not 7ou have to worry about the engine. i would run a compression check and diagnostic check on it just to be sure that there is nothing wrong with it. if not than you good but honestly you can find another 240, probably with less miles on it for cheaper in a pretty good condition, you just have to do your research..personally i think kbb would be good if your trying to talk down a dealer from an extremely high price but thats really not gonna matter in this situation..its just used to give you an estimate. your correct saying that the 240 is a rare car but you could always find one if you looked hard. if he bought it with 9000 miles on it, it wasnt brand new..new but used.lol. personally it sounds like alot of money to me for the miles on it but it all depends if he replaced internals at all or not, if he did i would consider the price but def try to talk him down dude, and be confident when you do it. know what your talking about and he'll go down...good luck.

 

its called compression test look it up. what kind of question is how strong?? miles dont really count if u take care of a motor compression test and ull know how strong it is

 

ive got 166,000 miles on mine and its still running strong. $2500 is a low price compared to what i paid for mine. i have a 93 and it was $3400. theres barely any 240s where i live and i wanted a white coupe and i found one so i got it even tho it was over priced. if you barely ever see 240s in your area and you really want one i would say go with that one. i can pretty much garantee you its going to need work on it tho. mine looked really good when i got it but within the first week i got it we found out it needed a new power steering hose, new belts and pullys, oil change, new filters, new left tie rode, and the front rotors need to be turned. it runs good now but its gonna need more work in the future. the k engine is pretty strong, its got good torque and itll beat any civic out there. lol

 

Iron block=last forever. Aluminum head=easy to destroy. If you keep up on your maintenece and take care of the car it'll last a long time.
