My car just stopped starting

Hey, i was wondering if anyone could help me out with this. The other day i went out to start my car and it will no longer start. It attmempts but doesn't get any further. Once it did start but fluttered at about 100-200rpm and then died. I replaced plugs, wires, distributor cap and fuel filter. I was wondering if there was any other cheap fixes i might try before i try anything expensive. Keep in mind i'm new to this and learning as i go, so try not to go over my head.

have u check for compression in the cylinders?

all it takes is once cylinder to either lose compression or have no compression at all to stall out ur car.

but if it cranks over, but wont start.... might need to check head gasket for a possible blown gasket.

Im thinking it maybe either burned valve and pressure is lost through there, or ur head gasket is blown and the pressure leaks out there...

but before u go and pull off ur head, check ur fuel pump.

thanks for the help guys... got it to start... the distributor cap was still messed up, put a new one on and it runs great now... next up, new tranny, no one likes the grinding noise when you put it into drive and the jump out of 1st
