Question Needing Ka24De Answers

I have recently purchased a 1990 240. i drove it about 2/3 of the way home and it over-heated. it has a blown head gasket and a rod is knocking in the crank. i dont know if i should try rebuilding the engine or go with a used one.

Also what other cars have a compatible engine for the 240 and if anybody knows where i can find one in Georgia. if i can't solve this proble i will be selling it for a part-out car. i also have a wrecked 5-speed that is a great part out. if anybody is interested or can have answers to my questions dont be afraind to speak up. any help would be greatly appriciated

89-90 = ka24E

91-94 = ka24DE

well, do you want to rebuild a whole engine or buy a used one ? Buying a used one will be cheaper . . you should be able to acquire one for 100-300.

People are giving away ka24E's almost . . I know of one in New England but you'll want one local. Keep checkin the forums and car-parts.com

I'd go with a ka24de swap . . lower milage and more HP. easy swap.

with a tight budget i'd go with the DE swap like stated ^^above. and if you want you can even rebuild the DE for even more HP.

i would suggest the ka24de swap that has been mantioned befor... get a dohc motor ecu and engine wire harness and it will drop right in... as well as bolt up to which ever trans you have in the car... now you said you had a wrecked 5speed??? do you want to sell the parts to do a swap on it??? meaning the transmission cross member ecu if it is a dohc motor??? i would even come down there and pull all the parts i need and pay you a lil cash in the process... let me know... i could even help you with the swap... if you decide to do that....

agree with the KA24DE swap. It's easy if you have access to an engine hoist. Most of the install is bolt-on with the exception of the power steering - either bend your SOHC lines, or pull the lines from a 91-94 S13. It all bolts right up

someone mentioned that you can use the tranny form the 89-90 motor, would it work with a ka24de form a 95 model? the guy i bought the motor from gave me an auto tranny with it, and mine is a 5spd, but he said my tranny wont work so i'd need to find one from a 95 or up, is this true?
