New belts are squeaky

I have a 93 240sx automatic trans. And I just got all my belts changed (3 of them) because they squeaked with my AC on and it was time. It was fine for a month, but now it squeaks worse! Most of the time when I go over 1000rpm, I get a horrible squeaking that can last for a long time. Its triggered by the AC and Heat too. Could this be my alternator belt has loosened? How can I tighten it? It seems tight when i feel around down there. I noticed it happens when my radiator fan spins up too, or it might just be a coincidence. Any help is appreciated so I don't have to bring my car in again!

They might not be on just right. as far as loosening/tightening, there should be a tensioner that takes care of that, you really cant adjust that, the spring just pushes one of the pullies out and applies the proper tension on the belt. btw if you paid to have the belt replaced just have the shop take care of it, they wont charge you since they messed up.

Definitely check tension to factory specs. You can also try some belt dressing.

Speaking of I've got brand new belts also. Well a month or two old now but new. When it's cold out, really cold, and only when it's cold, one of the belts (can't figure out what one) squeaks for a few minutes until the car warms up. Any way to check/fix this as it makes my car sound like a piece and it's annoying. Thanks.

New belts will stretch, break in and have to be re-adjusted. I had one sqeeling a little and it eventually stopped. Belt dressing might work as well.

loosen the pivot bolt on your power steering/alternator/air compressor... tighten the retention bolt to fact specs or more... tighten up pivot bolts, then test run for squeaks...

lather rinse repeat until no squeaks...

if it still squeaks... your 'new' belts just got glazed. replace.

My 240 does the same thing... I put all new belts on it before i reassembled the front of the motor cuz they were about 10 miles from dead from the looks of em... now when i turn on th a/c or fan or what not before it is completely warmed up (and sometimes after) it will squeal. I think that our problem is the alternator belt, being that its when we turn on electrical devices. Try belt dressing as said before, if that doesnt work, tighten them up, but b e sure not to overtighten them, you can cause the bearing journals and what not to wear prematurely.

Yeah my 240 is finally hitting the streets... its only been 4 years since i bought the car! lol. No im registering/insuring it this month, finished or not. Dude i was checking out my faded *** brake tag, and it expired 7 of 97... it hasnt been on the road in 9 years! its got some miles to catch up on. Only 106k on the ODO, noice!
