New Cam option

I was on 240sxforums.com and a Member mentioned he had the 248/248 s13 cam swap in his s14 but he put the Exhaust Cam in the Intake side 3 teeth counterclockwise vs. the 4 tooth method I've heard about since forever. Anywho I went ahead and installed anoter 248 cam in my S14 with the 3 tooth method and I must say the Torque increase was Incredible. I was always a HP guy with 3in. Exhaust and what not winding it out all the time but with this Mod my Driving style will have to change because the newfound low end feels so much better. Basically why haven't I heard of this before?

Someone with an S13 should get another Exhaust Cam and try this cause I don't think its ever been done. My buddy who has a Similarly Modded S14 with the 248/248 4 tooth combo followed me to the store and on the way home we punch it from a red light, and I pulled on him so hard he can't stop talking about how first thing in the Morning hes skipping work so he can do the same thing. BTW it idles so Lopey its damn near sexy.

Sorry, i'm not trying to be a dick but can someone explain the cam set up and what 248/248 means? Assumingly the lift and duration, but i just wanna make sure. I would love to try this mod but i dont wanna F it up. And what motor the cams came off of. I have a S14 Zenk. Thanks guys.

This is interesting, I have this mod (2x248) with the 4 tooth method. It pulls a lot more starting at 4000rpm. I am curious to see the difference in between the two methods. I am wondering what are the effects on the engine also, anyone has techinal information on these. For those who want a how to, here it is again:

-Achieve TDC (top dead center, lobes facing out or line up the markings on the crank pulley.)

-Use two exhaust cams (the ones with the orange paint on them) from a 91-93 KA24DE 240sx (don't argue these are the ones you need, forget about the Altima myth).

-Don't forget to ziptie the cam gears to the timing chain after you remove the cams so you don't lose the position of the gears.

-Install one in the exhaust cam spot on the exhaust side and replace gear in stock position, don't forget the lube.

-Install other exhaust cam on intake side and rotate cam gear 4 teeth counter clockwise (left in layman's terms) don't forget the lube. Manually turn cam with wrench after bolted down until the notch on the gear lines up with the pin on the cam.

-I would also recommend doing at least a revolution manually with a wrench before starting her up to make sure everything is as it should be.

-Pour some oil on the cams, put everything back together, and fire her up, if she doesn't start easily don't force it you messed up somewhere. Start over.

-If she starts you may hear a slight ticking noise, it goes away never to return after the car warms up and squirts some oil up into the cams and buckets.

Anyone have an extra s13 cam? I'll run the 3 tooth method on my s13 if they do.

Performance wise the only thing different is he has a Hotshot header and 3in Exhaust. I have a Greddy Header and SR20 Downpipe with 3in Exhaust. Everything else is similar. Elec. Fans, Weight Reduction, Intakes etc...My Tach is on the Fritz right now but It pulls from Idle to about 5500 than falls on its face. I shift alot earlier now but the 1st to 2nd gear and 2nd to 3rd gear shift puts you right into the next Powerband. The Guy who came up with the ideas name is Bmoses on 240sxforums.com and he has multiple 14.8 second 1/4 mile Timeslips and he has an Open Diff and ****ty Tires. On a Slightly Modified N/A KA.

hmm, I think I may have to try this on my 92 coupe. I have an extra set of cams from a 91, so i think I have a project for this weekend. Gives me a chance to put on the intake plenum I just removed the swirl plates out of. Awesome, I love finding reasons to work on my car.
