Question about intake adapter
Hey you guys, this is my first post, please try not to bag on my to hard. I'm an avid overclocker and member of OCForums.com, but when it comes to cars I'm lost.
So the thing is I bought an intake adapter, and have a K&N filter:
I went to install it today and noticed a little hose going to the airbox that my adapter didnt have a spot to hook up.
I looked it up as best as I could without really knowing what it does and I've come to find that it has something to do with emissions (please correct me if I'm wrong). This is the hose I'm talking about:
I have seen some installs where the people just left the tube hanging, and some where they put its own little filter on it.
I was just wondering what the correct/best solution was. I was also wondering what the black plastic gasket time thing is for, it seems like it would only restrict airflow. Thanks in advance for the help guys.
*EDIT* Because I can't spell

Best bet is to put a breather on it, my friend who bought my old '91 bought the intake with adapter plate and he just leaves the hose hanging.
The thing the hose connects to is the AIV unit, it is used for emissions and can be removed (will have to be put back in for inspection/emissions though).

So would it be safe to run it just hanging untill I can buy a breather? Also do you have any links to what you suggest? Will it only effect emissions or will it hurt my engine at all if it just hangs?
Thanks for the help.

OK, thanks. Now that that's figured out I tried to remove the Maf from the airbox with no luck.
Any idea how to remove those screws? Even with the right size wrench, the corners just start to round off. Can't even get one to turn.

I believe that would be your gasket for the adapter plate, goes between the plate and the MAS. Never seen one shaped like that before with the square in the middle and the mounting holes need to be near the corners more...

Yeah the breather filter is just for emissions. Gotta have that hose plugged in for you to pass. Here's what it looks like. My engine bay..... http://www.club240.com/forums/showth...e&pagenumber=2
