Question question about timing chain

I have read the FSM for my 92 to study removal and install of the timing chain. the FSM says to remove the cylinder head and people have told me I wouldn't have to. Do I remove the head or no?

Took a look at the FSM and it looks like the only reason why they tell you to remove the head is ecause the head gasket has a loop part that wraps around the lower chain pulley. I suppose if you're careful you could get the job done without removing the head.

and it is a pain in the *** to get the timing chain cover to go back on if you have not removed the il pan...it tends to mess up the front loop part of the head gasket if you are not careful...
