shaking engine

Hey all!!! So i drove my 240 3 days ago no problems. But tonight as I was driving i notice the car shaking and i realized that it was the engine was viberating more than usual. The shifter is also shaking violently when the car is not in gear. And when i rev the engine past 2500 it makes a simliar sound to the sound when you're rev'in under 1000. I think i might not be running on all cyclinders. Going to change the spark plugs tmr, since I've yet to do that. Any other ideas? Thanks.

check your mounts too; engine and tranny (3 total), all the linkages in your drive shaft. make sure nothing's loose, torqued right.

do a tuneup (plugs, wires, cap, rotor) visually inspect the mounts (you can see them fine from up above)

hey all.... thanks for the input and advice but I still have the same problem. I did a full tune up(distributor cap, rotor, spark plug, spark plug wires). Once i unplug the first spark plug wire, the shaking stops. At first i thought it might be a bad spark plug or spark plug wires, so i replaced those, but no luck. So i thought i might as well do the distributor cap and rotor. Any ideas?

Make sure you don't have a dead cylinder.

Did you type that right? On a decent running engine, if you unlug one spark wire, it will start to stutter because it's on 3 cyl. - not the other way around

yeah, i typed it right! its wierd to me too. but if i unplug any of the other three spark plug wires it shutters. so i tested each of the four injectors. only when i unplug the first injector does the engine stop shaking, but if i unplug any of the other injectors it shutters worst. so the unplugging the first injector and unplugging the first spark plug wires have the same effect(the engine stops shaking). so i'm wondering if each fuel injector only injects fuel into on cylinder, or is hat how it works? so whats the next step? clean the fuel injector? replace fuel injector? other tests? could it be a dying cylinder jessicas14 stated?

on the #1 cylinder that you said "it stops shaking", when you pull the spark wire out (with the engine on) is there spark in the wire at all?

4th chamber, fuel injector or isnt getting spark, firing order is 1-3-4-2

so since 4 is out itll be 1 3 _ 2

if 1 is unplugged, you get _ 3 _ 2 but as you can see, it has some sort of balance to it

plus my 4th was crapping out a while back too. did the same test, same results

edit: forgot it spun counter clockwise but idea is still the same

hmmm... that is pretty interesting. the thing is i think my 4th fuel injector along with my spark plugs and wires are working properly, since when i unplug it, it shakes like hell. But it does definitely explain why unplugging the first injector and wire gets everything balanced. Thanks for the heads up.

not sure what else then

you unplugged both spark plug wire and injector connector on No 4 right?
