Shure you can..... People always get a 3" cat back exhaust sometimes before any other mod...
Why would you get it from phase 2?
You can get universal catco cats off of ebay for under $50. I had gotten mine flangless, and I welded the flanges on. Flanges cost like $2.00. If you can't weld a flangless muffler shops can do it between $60~$80......

i'd rather not bother with welding. just want to take off then on. i could get the stock cat for around 100 or get the one from phase2 for 150, i also have another option to get a hedmen for 188. i wouldn't have to wait for the stock or hedmen one either. bleh hard time making a decision, i wish there was somewhere over here that had catco in stock.

bigvinnie is right. it will still be a lot cheaper to get the universal high flow catco cat. thats what i have. just take it to the muffler shop, its cheap.

well just got back with talking with my friend and he said that cat's don't usually leak because they are made pretty tuff. he said i might have blown the gaskets. i just recently lowered my car and went to fast over a speed bump and heard a slight scrap which was probably my cat. since it being old and being moved he said it probably ripped the gasket.

so all in all i am gonna try redo the gaskets first before going for a cat. maybe while i am down there i can check things out.

Will the stock cat on a S14 unbolt from the factory exhaust, or is it welded to the stock dp? That is one of my CEL's and I figured if its just an unbolt job, I'll just unbolt it, and hollow it out.

well if you haev a CEL for a bad convertor then gutting the cat is not gonna fix your CEL.

gutting your cat is essentially the same as a test pipe except you have a big hollow in the middle of the pipe and a test pipe is just a pipe.

Gutting the cat is bad, it affects flow numbers in the exhaust , and makes pulses through out the pipe scattered and uneven. It would show horrible results. If you are going to gut the cat you need to do it right and add a resonator pipe.

Note: RESONATOR pipe...not just a straight piece of pipe... which will make it sound like a raspy old ***... or a civic...

Even on test pipes they add the resonator. OBX sells them the cheapest. The adds on ebay are sold that they are a high flow cat....
Fact is thats a lie, it's just what it is, a resonator pipe.

Gets rid of the deep tone? I dont think so nick. It helps cancel out the high tones which make your ears bleed (okay not really) and helps reduce noise, making it less of a buzz and more of a...hum? oh well. Just install it and see for yourself.

yeah..key word "straight pipe"... a resonator has sound deadener in it so its not as loud as a straight pipe, but has higher flow than a cat
