Walbro pump w/ stock KA: FPR adjustment?

Hello all.

After some hard starting, I'm pretty sure my stock KA24DE could use a new fuel pump - the spark plugs are good, the starter is definitely turning the crank, but it takes a little while to catch.

I'm know that there are many members who can give me more diagnostic advice, and I'd like to hear that too, but my specific question is: What exactly am I going to have to deal with if I install a Walbro 255lph fuel pump? (I can get the Walbro for under $100 locally, an OEM replacement is almost $200).

Given that my 240 is my daily driver (for now) I don't want my fuel mileage to go down the tube... Searching (yes I did) has let me know that the Walbro 255lph delivers fuel at something like 50psi, whereas the stock pump delivers 43.5psi. Can I adjust my stock fuel pressure regulator to avoid burning lots of extra juice? Is it a mechanical adjustment or and ECU tuning issue (the latter is out of my league...

Of course if anyone could point me to an affordable OEM replacement that would cure all my ills.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the information, from what I found out the stock fuel pressure regulator will deliver the same amount of fuel to the engine regardless of how much the fuel pump delivers. I was concerned that perhaps the FPR depended on a diaphragm that compared manifold pressure to fuel pressure, but I see this isn't the case. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Planning on picking up the Walbro asap.
