whats the cause
I've finally got my car running but that is just the tip of the iceberg. Now that it starts and runs it is idiling at 2200rpms. I've checked over everything that i can think of all the way down to unpluging the TPS. I'm not sure if it's a vac line or if it's the TPS. Will closing off the EGR vac lines help? Any input will be helpful.
do you think that it could be my tps? someone told me that your tps controlls your idle. not sure if that is true. don't flame me where is the idle screw located, and the linkage has no pressure on it. the butterfly appears to be closed. help please
i checked over the nightmare again yesterday and even with the throttle cable unhoked it still idles at 2200rpms. I put the car in drive and it dropped to 500rpms and shut off ike it wasn't getting any gas. I restarted the nightmare and let it sit it idled at 2300rpms like normal, shifted it into gear and the same thing happened again.
have you checked to see if you have moisture in the spark plug holes like around the spark plugs. When you wash your motor sometime water gets in where the spark plugs are and cuts the spark, it will run but it idles bad.
I've seen this problem a lot with 240s, most of the time its the timing chain happens to be streched from high mileage. thats a big job tho, so try unplugging your battery for a half an hour. give your ecu a chance to retest the engine. Another thing you might want to try is twisting your distributor counter clockwise, it sounds like your timing might be advanced a lil too high. I think the 240s recommended advance on the timing is 12 degrees.
WTF I've installed my new TPS and my problem still persists. With the new TPS the idle lowered to 1000rpms but then the car shuts down. I found that when I unplug my map sensor that there is alot of unburnt fuel flowing for the exhaust. is there any certain position that the TPS sensor is suppose to be in. Can someone please help me. The nightmare 240 is becoming just that. HELP PLEASE
