I went to the tire shop today to get 2 new tires on my car and get it aligned and while I was there the guy said I had a messed up tie rod and my berrings needed to be replaced in one of my wheels...my dad listened to my wheel and he said it wasn't that but I don't know..and the guy said it would cost around 50.00 to 100.00 to get the parts for the berrings because youc can only get them from the factory...how do I know if I need new berrings?

 

If you don't know what to look for, get a second opinion from a reputable repair shop....

 

HEY MAN THE EASIEST WAY TO SEE IF YOUR WHEEL BEARINGS ARE SHOT IS TO JACK THE CAR UP, GET THE WHEEL TO COME OF THE GROUND OF COURSE. NOW GRAB THE TIRE WITH BOTH HANDS ONE AT 3 AND 9 OCLOCK AND TO TRY AND MOVE IT SIDE TO SIDE IF YOU GET ANY PLAY, MOVEMENT, THEY ARE SHOT I HOPE THIS HELPS

 

Possibly. At 3 and 9 o'clock and checking for play, that would indicate a bad tie rod OR a bad wheel bearing. Have someone watch the inner tie rod and the outer tie rod end if you do this. If there isn't any play in either, it should be the wheel bearing. The wheel bearing will also show excessive play if you shake the wheel @ 12 and 6 o'clock, as well...
