that pic had to be taken with base housing as the backdrop...
nice ride minus the wing...it's hot otherwise :thumb:

drnovascotia 09-24-2003 06:56 AM

Looks damn clean, that thing would look so sweet it you took off that airplane spoiler and put on the 180sx spoiler (in my opinion)

Definately lookin clean, that spoiler will get your called ricer however, but lookin good. Wish I had that much to invest in my car!

DrNoVaScotia

Monkey Force 10-02-2003 11:03 AM

the only time your called a ricer is if you aint got the **** to back up your "flare".... The wing went on as a joke but beleive me you need it when trying to take a corner at 135mph.

If anybody called me a ricer to my face, I would break all the teeth in their head.

drnovascotia 10-02-2003 01:56 PM

I was going to reply about that, but then I went to your cardomain site and saw that sr20, lol. I disagree that people say that unless you can back it up, thats not true at all. People will say " you drive a nissan, rice rocket", I was told that at work the other day. I said not at all, it's pretty quick and handles great, and rwd. He said he loves them, his buddy had one, but there still a rice rocket.
I was just stating when people see a wing like that the first thing they say is rice. Rice can be fast, but generally isn't of honda's, lol.

I do have to say thats one sexy car though.those kouki's look soooo nice. Definately one of the best looking 180's.

Is there much of a 240 following up in Maine where you live? Because there's no one beside me here in NH! lol.

Dr.

SLIDE OR DIE 10-02-2003 03:16 PM

Your ride is hot! Im not a fan of wings but that one looks good on you car!

Base housing is a nice touch. how's Japan? Im in the millitary (AF) too. It sucks being away from family!!!!!!!!!

Monkey Force 10-02-2003 03:41 PM

thanks :)

TiggsCRX 01-29-2004 11:33 AM

Bringing this back from then dead. I'm in Maine and probably going to be swapping my CRX Si in for a 240sx. Hopefully ya'll can help me find a good sr20det or rb20det to swap in etc.
Hope to join the 240sx crew soooooon!

drnovascotia 01-29-2004 12:12 PM

Sick of the Si? What year is it and what do you have done? I own a 90 Si, and Am getting a 91 Si with a blown engine and some body work to be done. what year 240sx you looking for?

Dr.

Papa_Doc240 01-29-2004 01:46 PM

I'm up here in Maine for school, up in Orono.

TiggsCRX 01-30-2004 10:04 AM

Well, I was offered an 89 240sx in trade for my crx si. I haven't done much to it. Has a crappy pacesetter exhaust, crappy air intake. needs normal rust fixed. Valves went at 195k, got a 70k d16a6 waiting to go in.

I've had a broken leg so I haven't been able to put it in. I'm not really tired of the crx, I love it, but to upgrade to a 240sx would be sweet. Hopefully I can find someone around that'l know a little about dropping a sr20det in since the sx i'm looking at has 170k on it.

TiggsCRX 01-30-2004 11:07 AM

ah frigitycracksucker

Frickin' guy with the 240sx flaked and said he wouldn't get rid of it but wants to get rid of his 200sx...nuh uh. Crap, I was gettin' all horny over getting a sx too.

drnovascotia 01-30-2004 11:58 AM

lol, ah well.

I'm i nthe process of fixing up my crx as well, plenty of rust on her. thats a low milage a6, how much did you get it for? I have a shell i'm looking @ dropping in a a6, do you know how to do it yourself?

Dr.

TiggsCRX 01-30-2004 02:07 PM

Yeah I'll have no problem replacing it. Just swapping one a6 for another.

drnovascotia 01-30-2004 09:48 PM

how heavy is the a6?

Any chance you wanna come down to NH and help me drop an a6 in a crx if I can find one? lol.

Dr.

TiggsCRX 01-31-2004 04:47 AM

the a6 is only a couple hundred pounds, maybe 350 complete with manifolds etc...if that. It's a small engine, only sohc. If I could get rid of my CRX as is for a good deal I'd sell you my 70k a6 for like $350.

drnovascotia 01-31-2004 08:35 PM

I might be interested in that, if you'll come help me drop her in!

Want me to keep my eye open for a 240sx around here?

Dr.

TiggsCRX 02-01-2004 04:40 AM

Nah, I guess my 240sx dreams are done, lol. I think I've finally spotted th Del Sol I'm going to get. I've wanted one since I was 13 so I gutta fulfil my desire... I know, I know...Slow as heck but I'll probably boost the heck outa it to make it hit 12's!

drnovascotia 02-06-2004 07:46 PM

you still selling that engine then? lol

Dr.

TiggsCRX 02-07-2004 07:46 AM

Nah. Del Sol guy flaked, decided he was gunna turbo it. He did sell me his complete d16a6 ($1400 invested) built head with a 3 angle valve job, double valve springs 1mm oversize valves and a delta 272 cam and a couple other things.. Gunna try and put it on my 70k mile engine this afternoon i think, got all the stuff I need. Of course, I might be interested in re-selling the head. But I def. need to keep the block itself for my car.

drnovascotia 02-07-2004 10:25 AM

how built is that head? for 1400 he coulda had a z6 full engine put in, or thats the cost of a b16. . thats insane.

You gotta turbo it now thats it's built?

Dr.

TiggsCRX 02-07-2004 11:34 AM

it's very built
port and polish
3 angle valve job
milled .040
deltal 272 cam
dual valve springs
1mm oversize valves

i think that's everything

With that and a d16y8 head gasket it'l put compression to about 9.4:1 which is still very boostable.

a z6 would be good, but if you plan on boostin' it you gutta deal with vtec timing, not to mention the extra $500 or so to get a z6 running in a crx anyway..would need new ECU, extra harness wiring, dif. distributor which is obd-1 when the CRX is non-obd (obd-0)

and a b16 will cost much more than $1400. Be lucky to get a b16 and tranny (let alone the LSD tranny) for that price. Then you gotta get new axles ~ $100-300, mounts ~$400, and wire the sucker up so vtec will work etc which comes into the ecu crap again.

SOHC has a number of advantages over the DOHC. And to do it without vtec, that's just even more impressive.

and don't worry, I didn't pay $1400 to buy the head.

drnovascotia 02-07-2004 11:51 AM

I didn't think you did
And to be different than a b16 is awesome, just as I'm avoiding doing the standard sr20.

9:4:1 is very bosstable, is that your plan?

How many hp does he imagine that will puit the engine up to?

Very interesting approach.

I'd take the a6 head from you but I haven't any clue how to rip it off, I wonder if the block on the crx I have with the blown engine is fine, and I could use the head.

Did you have any upgrades on your rex?

Dr.

TiggsCRX 02-07-2004 11:59 AM

The head will give me another 30-40hp after tuning, which wont happen until march. I'm also adding on an aem cai to get rid of the ebay short ram i have now and probably a header. Not sure about the header yet though, I might be getting some money soon so I don't wanna bother buy a header if I'm just going to replace it during a turbo build up.

My goals are for 200hp. Might turbo, might now. Not sure. If I don't turbo I'll atleast go for n2o.
We'll see. I don't feel like rumaging around for a home-made turbo, I'd rather just get a kit, so I gotta come up with $2k.

Swapping a head shouldn't be too hard. It's a matter of about 10 bolts.

drnovascotia 02-07-2004 01:26 PM

Shouldn't be? I haven't done it so I haven't a clue.
how much would you part with the a6 head for? I mgiht pop hat omn my buddies engine that doesn't work, add a timing belt and she if she goes.

2K for a turbo isn't too bad, but kit's your paying more, but it's generally done right with a kit. I was thinking about investing 1K and getting a homemade kit for the a6 and running 140hp, that'd be nice.

Dr.

TiggsCRX 02-07-2004 05:05 PM

140hp with a turbo would be simple. you could put a tiny little turbo on there and hit 140hp. I'm planning on running between 8-11psi which will easily hit 200hp. I've heard of setups running 6psi on a z6 head hitting 200hp, so should be no problems with an a6. I'm not sure about selling my head yet, I need to think about it a little bit more.

drnovascotia 02-08-2004 07:28 AM

well right now it's 106 stock, 140hp isn't much at all, but with a 2100 pound car that should be pretty quick. I have to decide if I'm gonna turbo my 240sx or crx, I can't decide. or I might sell my running crx and try to get the not running one and make it work, who knows.
with such a built engine couldn't you run higher than 11psi? with that much hp you'll be more worried about traction, lol. How fast you think it'd run in the 1/4?
When are you planning on doing it all as well.

Dr.

TiggsCRX 02-08-2004 10:30 AM

My turbo setup will depend on when my cash flow comes in. Probably early summer time.

Traction does become a huge issue, so just get some better tires. You can get some good (soft) street tires or even go for slicks to help out.

Also, even though the head is built, the bottom of the block isn't and can only handle so much until a piston gets fried/melts etc.

I need my car to be a daily driver so I would just make it so I could pump up the boost. I'm not looking forward to having to run 93+ all the time though so I might not go turbo, might stay n/a for a while. No clue, all depends on money.

If you want a fast 1/4mile car, then go with the crx over turbo 240sx, but the 240sx has the handling that a crx, well, a crx with a fully rebuilt suspension and sway bars etc could get up there, they're used for autox alot.

drnovascotia 02-08-2004 11:07 AM

yeah, i've been looking into keeping the crx and trying autox. I just love the handling my 240sx has, and all the $$ i've put into it, this winter alone i've put in like 700 worth of stuff to put on by summer. this crx is definately growing on me though. I gotta decide what i'm gonna do with the crx with some rust and minor body damage with the blown engine. It's free if I pick it up, however I can't have 3 cars in the driveway, lol. A little bondo and another a6 engine and I could turn around and sell it for 2K if done right.

Well keep me updated on whats going on, good to know someone around here into crx's as well. You have to get a 240sx though man, my love for that thing is on a whole different level, lol.

Dr.

TiggsCRX 02-08-2004 12:50 PM

check out http://www.honda-tech.com/zeroforum?id=3

All 88-91 CRX/Civic all the time. That's where I've learned everything. They are very harsh on rice though.

How are you with body work? Paint? I suck at body work, my quarter panels are rusty... http://members.cardomain.com/tiggscrx

drnovascotia 02-08-2004 01:59 PM

the one of the 3 crx forums I go to. Not the best layout, but still lots of info. They can be dicks, but there are a lot worse forums out there.

I'm kinda new to body work, learned to bondo this winter, gonna learn some more this summer. My buddy is in CT autobody school for the next 15 months, so anytime I do any bodywork he helps
me out.

But that would be a good project, especially when it's free and I could sell my 90 si for probably 2400 this summer, and put 1400 towards the one with the blown engine, and 1K towards turbo or a laptop.

Good lookin car you have there, looks really clean for it's age. Like the white interior.

Dr.

TiggsCRX 02-08-2004 06:26 PM

Man, if I could find someone to buy my rex for $2400 I'd be all set. Not gunna happen though. They don't sell for much anymore.

drnovascotia 02-08-2004 06:46 PM

thats not true @ all.
the one I almost sold had 90K, clutch was DEAD and he sold it for 2200, in decent shape

one without rust here in NH and 150K in NH 3 weeks ago sold for 2600.

Mine has redone hg, radiator, timing belt, etc, and only 94K, and with how rare they are I should be able to get 2k range, body will be in good shape
