Well Stan mentioned the ones with the lithium battey, which are slimmer and last longer then other batteries. You want the ones with multiple channels V, basically around 82 is it? It has a bunch of main channels with sub-channels under each one, so you don't have to worry about other ppl chiming in.
nextel basically sucks everywhere and only good 150 miles or less from home zone talkabouts are good for us crusing and going to big park or amusement parks for the summer or car shows anywhere, but thanks guys I will look for the lithium bad boy battery
THese are all the talkabouts for about a 2-mile range
talkabouts
THis is the one I'm looking at
6220
That one is about 69.95 with a rechargable battery

those things are kool....everyone should get one....except for those out of range or dont come to meets....good for long road trips like the one to ct.....we could of been talkin mad s--t...ne special store that's easy to find where i can get one?
I dunno, my experience with these things haven't been all to happy. Sometimes you lose the other person when they are less than a mile away, all kinds of goofy sh*t happens. Anyone interested in getting something better, if there is such a thing as better? something with a better range of distance, I don't know whats out there, but I'll look. I might just be talking out of my ***. Nextel's service has gotten a lot better from when I first started using them, but I understand it gets expensive. we'll see what the options are
hey guys,
here's my experience with nextels and radios. These motorola (or other brand) radios send signals in a 'line of sight'. My friends and I have ordered up a bunch solely for skiing trips. On a highway or slope, these things are great b/c there really aren't any obstructions. But when we try to use it at home, it sucks bigtime. We pretty much live within a 2mile radius of each other and there's no way we'll ever get a signal b/c of the buildings nearby. The same goes if we're on opposite sides of the mountain. Obviously, the greater the range the better, but I think you'll need a license to use radios with > 5mile radius capability (correct me if I'm wrong).
Now with nextels, I have one b/c of work. These things are different from radios in that it communicates directly with the towers, and sends out your signals to other nextel user(s). Think of the 'nextel' feature as a 1-way cell phone. So your signal pretty much depends on the service in the area. Within the 5boros, they're pretty good, except for some bad spots. If you want a better idea, simply go to nextel.com and check out their coverage maps.
