camaro's vs 240's

i have a friend that says he has a camaro that weighs at 2500 pounds(is it really that light?). it is a 1970 automatic camaro with a v8. can that beat my 1991 240 manual?

2-FORTY_TERROR 04-01-2003 08:41 AM

HMMMMMM.......

is your 240 stock......

.......if it is, he'll eat your @ss, spit it out, and hand it to you.....

but then again if he hits a cow half-way down the track yeah you'll win.....lol....

but on the flip side if i raced him i would shove his V8 up his @ss....

so if the question is....."can a 240 beat a 1970 V8 camaro"

then technically yes......with mods.....!!!!!

I'm with Stupid 04-01-2003 10:46 AM

There is no way in hell a 1970 Camero would 2500 lbs....maybe 2500kg.

leiferik1 04-01-2003 11:56 AM

why are you even asking this question?

i know your new here and all, but i think your making a lot bad first impressions. i know from personal experence it isn't the way to go, so if thats the road your on i'd suggest changing lanes.

nissean 04-01-2003 07:05 PM

lay off whatever you're on and get some rest...
seriously...:spin:

2-FORTY_TERROR 04-02-2003 08:29 AM

HMMMMMMMMM........

leif does have a very interesing point......i have another theory on the camaro....if he happens to miss the cow going down the lane......then tell him to sell it, and get a 240.....hmmm...just a thought!!!!!!!

DETurbine 04-03-2003 07:04 AM

1970 camero.......is the V8 built or stock? Those camero's are not even close to 2500 pounds especially with a V8 in one......why don't you just give him a race, win or lose just to see were you are at.

240SXDrifter 04-03-2003 12:43 PM

My friend has an automatic 74 Camaro with a 350 in it. My 240's got an Apexi 3'' catback N1 exhaust and a HKS intake. When we race we are even until 115mph when the speed governor kicks in. I beat him off the line though.

The Fan 04-23-2003 11:18 AM

the only way his camaro wieghs 2500 lbs is if hes cut it up. a v8s power differs tremendously. a 1970 engine with out being rebuilt would have less hp than your 4cyl. more than likely. even if his car is built i find that most camaros have a hard time hookin up. you can have all the power in the world but if your tires dont stick, you go nowhere. some people spend thousands on engines just to spin tires through 4.11 gears on stock leaf springs. not to mention some people just cant drive. ive seen slightly modified civics beat mustangs in the 1/8 mile just cause the guy burns tires through the first 3 gears. anyways what im trying to say is more power doesnt mean faster car. not sure if i made my point but you get the idea. just race and find out

You're kidding right?

Even if it isn't that light, I'm pretty sure you'd get spanked unless you've spent alot of money on your car.

Z-bra 04-25-2003 05:28 AM

do you know anything about camaro's dude

Well, I know that my friends stock 69 Camaro with a 402(actually its bored but that doesn't make all to much difference) beats the hell out of my stock 93 Prelude VTEC (H22a1) and that my stock Prelude beats the hell out of my stock KA24DE. SO I'm guessing that unless you get some work done you won't beat an old American muscle car with a KA, and why bother when you could swap in an RB or SR and rub that muscle cars face in the dirt as you flyby?:bigok: Oh yes, that 69 camaro will have much dirt to eat when I get my RB.

konseiEva 04-25-2003 09:31 AM

2500lbs does seem quite low for a camaro. most cars in the 70's were built like tanks.

old school american muscle cars are so hot. i'd love to have one but at this point i would go even more broke on gas

jkfreshdaddy 04-25-2003 11:55 AM

This is pretty sad we are agueing about two cars seperated by 20 or more years. And if im not mistake a 240sx is a great drifting and cornering car and i bet your talking about drag racing, well of course the camaro is going to win its built for it.

http://www.fast-autos.net/chevrolet/...rozl1info.html

don't trip, its made for drag specificly i bet a 240sx could kill it on a mountain road

I bet your right, but how many times have you seen a Camaro, or any muscle car for that matter drifting?!(intentionally) Have you ever even heard of a drifting domestic?   That's kind of like hearing about the long lost V8 Turbo Honda.

MrRonatron 04-25-2003 10:00 PM

the other day i was watching "grip video" i bought it at best buy, and it had a whole drifting section and it showed a guy drifting in an 80's style camaro....

 i suppose you'd be referring to this guy? :dunno:

i've seen him in a few drift video's... i gotta admit, not too bad.:p i'll give credit to just about anyone who thinks outside of the box (and this is waaaaaaaaay outside   )

-HyJynX- 04-27-2003 09:22 AM

omg thats a camaro!? wow it took me awhile...

MrRonatron 04-27-2003 04:44 PM

yes yes, it was that fool...

ryan15 12-25-2003 11:19 PM

it has a bleacher wing and a huge Japanease exhaust its like putting dual flow masters on your 240, you dont do it.

GAWD! I forgot all about this place... So how well did the Mustang and the Camaro fair on the drift course? I'll try not to be biased in assuming that imports are the only cars that deserve to drift...

Newagedukes 12-29-2003 04:33 PM

It all started out with the Dukes of Hazard. True?

l3ooherS14 07-25-2004 11:44 AM

240sx over Camero

Chedderknight 07-25-2004 12:49 PM

i seriusly dont know much about the old school cars, other than the fact that they are beautiful pieces of work, and that buying one will wound yea, paying for the gas would kill you on later, but just race for fun, see how things go, work more on your car than focusing on his, and IMO being able to handle is more important than speed these days, just my opinion though, so dont take my word for it

ArticDragon 07-25-2004 03:55 PM

Haha, the 69 Camaro is my fav. Itd kill the 240 in straight line, but that 240 will own it on the touge. oh yeah, and that GTO and Viper have been at the drift course. Domestics are getting the hang of this drifting deal, lol.

l3ooherS14 07-25-2004 04:00 PM

Yeah, Have you seen that GTO Drift car?

ArticDragon 07-25-2004 08:41 PM

Yeah, Rhys Millen drives it. It competed in the D1 Gran Prix earlier this year. there are pictures all around of that viper and GTO drifting. Hell, I saw it up close at HIN here in L.A.

nissean 07-27-2004 02:13 PM

too bad...they beat the **** out of em before they get to the dealership...at the factory...:tear:

87camarodan 08-17-2004 12:33 AM

in the 70s the new smog rules really ate up a lot of our horsepower, but if he has done much with his motor then the Camaro will winz joo...

that drift camaro makes me sad, take that wing off and put a regular bumper and a real exhaust on it... yucky

and im pretty sure that isnt the first drift camaro, even in hawaii, there was a guy on thirdgen.org that was drifting his red 92 camaro with a black hood when I was on that forum about 3 years ago,,, so yah, not the first, and certainly one of the gayest.

My camaro is only lowered and it actually handles pretty good, if I hadnt needed tires and a windshield she would ahve been at drift day 13...

dont hate on camaros! just stiffen the chassis and those 3rd gens will roxor

Kermit_the_Frog 08-17-2004 03:02 PM

The V8 camero will rip your 240 a new one.

kamaxor 08-17-2004 09:42 PM

i've been a fan of american muscles and yes, camaro's will kill our 240 on drag... plus the fact that they have V8 to start with a inline 4 for 240. so there's a huge difference already.. if the camaro is built.. you won't touch those car, unless you modify ur car heavily..

by the way, have you seen a built camaro on a staging lane..
man, the whole chassis twist when rev their engine hard..
but hey, there are some cars that will surprise you..

like one time I saw a hatchback went up against a viper srt.. of course the viper won but by just .01 of a sec... it was real close no one knows who won until they saw the numbers on the light..

Derrick qualified 7th out of 37, making it in the top 16 qualifiers. Derrick was pitted against Chris Forsberg in the Motorex 350z for the tandem runs. Derrick has never done any tandem runs before, but he did pretty good. If he had not run wide on the end of his leading run he very well may have advanced to the next round. As it was, the judges let them run again. While he did very good on following, a spin on the end of his leading run led to Forsberg advancing (Chris Forsberg - who finished 2nd at the Atlanta event - went on to finish 3rd in this event). Our goal was to make it past qualifying, and we succeeded beyond our expectations by qualifying much better than we had hoped.

Our low budget, non-sponsored entry made it into the big leagues. We drove it to the event with tools and tires loaded in the back - and the we drove it home.

not necissarly true. I had a dinky honda civic si lightly modded with 18 psi. daily driven. which made me like 415hp. In Ennis i lined up next to heavly modded trans am and ate his a$$ with a 10.9 quarter. He ran a 11.3 with a near perfect reaction time. I am a firm believer that the number of cylinders dont mean sh!t. Its all about weight and traction. oh and a really nice tune. but just my $.02

TWT00 10-19-2004 06:17 AM

LIghtly modded civic with 415hp? Could you explain that to me please? Is that a joke or for real??

TWAN 10-21-2004 01:59 PM

sorry but what i considered lightly modded. may not be to you. it was a 99 civic si with a built bottom end 9:1 compression, sc61 turbo and rev hard front mount. it had a stock head but a decent tune. i guess that would be mildly modded.:dunno:
