so my buddys cousin rolls up today in a 88 nissan hardbody and starts talkin some jive about the motor. so he pops the hood and to my surprise it wasnt a ka motor (as far as i know). well for starters, printed on the valve cover was "nissan Z". and ontop the intake was stamped "Z24". and it had 8 spark pugs, two for each cylinder, opposing. but it did, infact have taht stupid egr pipe on it. any ideas? is this an extremely old school ka or what?

 

It's a Z24, old school Nissan/Datsun engine. I guess it would be like the predecessor to the KA24E.

 

but that was swapped in right? the hardbody never came w anything but the ka correct?

 

I'm pretty sure early years did come with the Z24
