yeah the press can be a nuisance at times but i think they're right in this case. from what i read no one was informed about the 1st shotting.

someone dropped the ball there big time and now more people are dead.

but yeah the stupid questions don't help any.

Sucks to see what happened. My condolences to anyone that lost anyone during the tragedy, and if any of our members are there I wish you the best.

I am so, so sad about the shootings. There are now 33 confirmed deaths. It's horrible. I want to know why the school reopened from lock down not even after an hour? I'm sorry.. but in Phoenix when crazy men are on the loose, they will lock down schools, businesses, and go door to door and tell people to STAY INSIDE until they capture the guy. It works.

And why e-mail all the students? I never check my school e-mail. Why didn't they have police blocking off the parking lots with their lights on? This whole situation was handled poorly!

Shame on the guy who did this too. It's a real cowardly thing to go around and kill a bunch of people and then kill yourself. If you hate your life that much, just take yourself out.. not innocent people too.

Also, why did this have to happen only a few days before the Columbine anniversary?

terrible news.

vt is good school but in a small town, i'm not sure the people there knew how to handle it. it's the first i've heard of something of this magnitude down there.

condolences to the families of lost loved ones. terrible, just terrible.

I'm sure all you folks from Virginia and the Maryland/DC area are feeling this in full effect, since it's so close to home. I heard about the news this morning when I was picking up a friend. It's SO crazy, the death count just kept going up and up with each update.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families who were affected by the incident, I have lots of friends that actually go to school down there, it's not even 4 hours away.

As far as the press; they are very insensitive with the issue. They should be restricted in only asking qualifying questions. It seems as though they ask questions just to get a reaction from some people. As morbid as it seems, they find ratings in others anguish. It's horrible.

I couldn't even watch it anymore, hearing the same things over and over and watching the same clips loop for the last 3 hours, I'm just waiting till we get official word and hear from some of my friends that were actually there. Thankfully, from the ones I've spoken with, they're all safe and unharmed.

Why close down campus? The shooter was dead. This is why I believe that everybody needs to carry a concealed weapon. There would only be two dead people. The first victim and the shooter. Outlawing guns is not the answer; only criminals would have guns.
And I completely agree with you biggamehit.
"What were the reactions of those students in the assaulted classrooms?"
I'm sure they waited calmly and contently until the shootings were over.

"How can something like this happen?"
Thats like asking somebody how somebody can walk into a shopping mall and shoot everybody up. Its like asking "why doesnt everybody who goes to the mall have to use a security swipe card to get into every store?" I'm sure that the reporters must have gone to college. They MUST realize that college is nothing like high school, and more like a shopping mall.

My favorite question was "what kind of special skills would the shooter have to have to have to shoot people with a handgun?"
1. point
2. shoot

The media are complete idiots. My heart goes out to all the victim's families but really, it does not need this much coverage.

100% agreed. i don't know about other states but here in wa it's like $80 for a concealed weapon permit for 3 years. i'm getting one as some as i find the right gun.
right now i'm thinking about a ruger 357 short barrel revolver.

We have the right to carry a weapon in Arizona. I don't have a gun though, because I don't feel the need to carry one.

By the way, the shooter took two separate times to shoot. That's why they should have kept he campus on lock down at 9:30am (when they originally locked it down) and left it locked down until they caught the shooter. They opened the campus back up around 9:46am (I think??) It was locked down a short time. After they reopened the campus, the shooter went on another killing spree. That's why I was saying they should have left the campus locked down. They could have saved more lives.

actually they only locked down like 2 buildings on the south end of campus after the first shooting around 7 am...they were only locked down for around 45 minutes and the second shooting took place 2 hours later at the far north end of campus

I know that the shooter killed two people in a dorm at the beginning of the day, but it looked like a domestic dispute. I know hindsight is 20/20 but thats like saying "somebody was killed, put the whole town on lockdown!" More than 25,000 stuednts (if my info is correct) go to VA tech.

a complete lock down would have been extreme but the thing that i don't get it that supposedly no one was informed of the first shooting until much later.

no no no your missing the point. if everyone has a gun legally those who have them illegally are less likely to commit crimes because of the possibility of him/her getting shot in the process.
