HICAS ... good for circle track racing ?

Well, I just bought a wrecked 91 240SX hatch and noticed a sticker saying super hicas on the qtrs. ( what the heck is hicas ? ... the guy I bought it from said it had something to do with 4 wheel steering... is that true ? I bought the car to use as a parts car for my 90 240SX hatch that I run in circle track competion..... but I'm thinking that if this car really has 4 wheel steering it might handle better than my 90. My question is.... should it / will it handle better than my current 240SX ? Keep in mind that I'm running on banked asphault ( 4/10's of a mile track ) and another question. Do these hicas cars have any engine mods ? I've driven my SOHC 240 and my team mates DOHC 93 240 ( both have stock engines...as per class rules ) and I swear that the 91 has more power than either of the other two

So it does have 4 wheel steering. My thinking is that it should hold the track better if the rear wheels are also turning into the turn. I know in our division there are strict rules reguarding altering suspension / wheelbase/ rear end locations because off setting the rear will make the car turn better, but because this is an OEM option it would be perfectly legal to run .

yeh, im not really into circle tracks that much so i dont really know too much bout it but 240sx i do. Most ppl (that wanna drift) take the Hicas off cus itll juss be a turn, not a drift. Are you going to swap it onto yours or juss fix the Hicas one?

Prolly just fix the hicas one . It was run off the road and hit a road pipe on the drivers side. The front suspension was trashed ( already replaced by previous owner ) as well as the dr. side fender & door. I already have the parts to fix the sheet metal if I decide to use it so I'll prolly throw it on a frame machine and go from there

HICAS is four wheel steering. The car you have has 2 edges on the non-HICAS car.

1. It has a larger rear swaybar. That is still on the car and is a stock item. You should be able to swap them out and keep your car legal.

2. It has VLSD. Viscous Limited Slip Differencial. This gets you another edge as you will have 2 wheels making the car go at the same time rather than one. This is why you feel that the car has more power than either of the other cars. It does in the way that it puts more of it's potential to the ground.

I would take the diff and the swaybar and swap them into the other chassis as you fix the hicas car for a replacement car. The 91 is a dohc and has one more cam. Breathes better and pulls harder.

If the 91 chassis gets trashed swap the motor over to the HICAS car that will now be ready to rock. Swap the whole rear subframe from the dohc car into the sohc HICAS chassis or just remove the steering rack. Swap the knuckles, diff and sway.

Then you will have the same car all over again.

Your vlsd also holds more fluid then an open diff.

Good luck. Could you post up some pictures from this beast?
