I've been registered here very shortly, been reading a while..
this is what I've come to notice:
The topics have horrible subject lines in most cases in minor to no relation to the actual subject. I think precise clarification as to what information is within the thread would eliminate people searching for subjects related to their questions.... and just giving up posting a new thread.
[Keep in mind, when you search 'offsets' 400 posts pop up simply because the word 'offset' was said...]
As Well.... there are a number of threads that are stickied/closed - that really shouldn't be... for instance, One of the offset forums is followed by another offset post, and both of them offer partial information saying 'here *****es' - When it only arises more questions, as well as frustration.. from my point of view.
Quick Example: "PRopper wheel offset *****es"
To explain fitment on the rear for a s13, we will be first taking a wheel fitment which is proven to be somewhat close to flush on the fender and does not require rolling since many of you are crybabies. The size is 17x9 +30. Now you can do much lower such as 17x9 +15 or 17x10 +12, but it does require camber and fender pull+roll. .... " etc etc...
The point of this is to show he's not giving proper offset '*****es' - he's just giving one example of offsets. As well as insulting anyone who doesn't choose to take the same rout he did. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! Insulted before I even ask a f'ng question? AND This foolio didn't even offer but a TIDBIT of information, and labeling it 'proper wheel offset, *****es' - This shouldn't be allowed, however it is.... so to rectify this I suggest you first talk to this person, especially if they're a moderator/administrator...
The people who offer information, then a link to their refference, as well as speaking fluently and considerate to those who might not understand the full language of mechanics/the scene - ending with "I hope this helps you" A L W A Y S - gets a better response... Maybe that should be offered in the rules of the forum, offer knowledge without insult.. unless prevoked, or obviously required.heh
I guess what my advice/request would be... [especially since you read every post I assume]
Is to 'clean up' the forum a little bit... I can help, I'll read every single post and combine the information if needed.
But essentially.... Having Diagrams/Formulas explaining what is what, rather than "look stupid this is how it works on my car"
My example:
Subject:
"Tire Sizes, Widths, Offsets and Spacers.."
Clear, consice, right?
----
Let's start with 17x9 25mm -
17: The Radius of the Tire [How Large the wheel is]
x9: Is the width of the rim/tire
25mm: is the 'offset'
"Offset is... the distnace between the center of the wheel.... which gives you the 'sunken' rim, or 'Rim Lip' "
yadda yadda... follwed by formulas for calculating the proper offset choice, or requirements for using spacers....
Advantages/Dissadvantages for Larger Offsets/Spacers
Advantages/dissadvantages for wider tires in the back/not front
Explination of Bolt Patterns, how to find what size/pattern you have.. followed by the stock bolt patterns of the 240's as well as [I'm thinking 300xz there might be more] popular 'axles?' used for swaps measurements.
Ending with Links to other 'clarified & cleaned' forum posts:
Link:
Adjusting Camber/Toe - What it does, why to do it
Link:
Buying New Wheels Rims, what you need to know
-
[in that forum^ you could explain hp ratio to tire/wheel size etc., Do I need larger brakes for Larger Wheels?]
As well as in the other forums, post links to other related forums...
-
Ending with Links of refference for the information posted.
-
I think this will save a lot of time, effort, and especially aggravation on all parts.
More people will have the information starring them in the face
You don't have to sift through 400 "Dude that's cool!"
"youre a dork" "I know im posting the same thing as the other guy, but..." "my car has" "what do I do.."
It's just fact... here's the dimensions, here's the formulas/calculations, here's the descriptions.... and if that doesn't answer all of your questions, here's links in refference to any questions you might have.
I think if all the moderators/administrators would work together, maybe even in conjunction with the posters/readers we could easily accomplish this.
It's as simple as deleting the previous 15 forum posts about the same thing, delete the posts that aren't infomational, include the extra formulas/descriptions [Give idiot answers, avoid idiot questions] As well as it being a simple post not 15 pages of everyone putting in their two cents. Finally... followed up by a few refference links either linking to more information or - VERY APPROPRIATE - link them to the related forum posts [the ones that have been cleaned/edited/added to and finalized]
Sticky, Lock... and call it a day.
Keep them at the top of the forum, followed by the open forum as is.
My previous idea was to have more subfolders, more specific.. but I think this would eliminate the need for that.
Keep in mind this is coming from a 'newb' and I'm aware you guys are doing a lot to keep this forum what it is, I just think this would desperately change the flow of this entire site. Especially because someone asking 'dumb' questions, gets chastized for asking them and get told 'look for it' - Not the best way.
Now.. if the information is consistant, clear, and Precise Subject Lines.... then you can say anything you want to the newbs like "DUDE ARE YOU Fing SERIOUS THERE's a SUBJECT LABLED THE EXACT THING YOU JUST ASKED AND AS FOR THE OTHER 12 QUESTIONS IN THIS ONE POST [all on different subjects, ugH!] THERE ARE LINKS ANSWERING THOSE QUESTIONS~! DIE DIE DIE~!" haha.. well you get the idea.

Also when posting something very opinionated, for example:
KA/NA,KA/T,SR20,RB20-25-26,Ca18?
After listing the basic information of the engines, comparing advantages/dissadvantages...
Costs: Engine itself, Requirements for Swap, Aftermarket availability, and Aftermarket Part Cost [average.. cuz' I know KA parts are more than SR's due to availability]
However, LACKING all 'opinions' Simply link to other Posts:
KA/NA!
KA T!
SR20!
RB20!
etc... this way everyone can say why they like it, disslike it... what they did and how easy it was. Withouth adding confusion to the F A C T S....

there are like 28,000 posts on this board. I would love to clean up every post and make the board great, but I simply lack the free time to go through 28,000 posts. I'm working on fixing some of the stickies where things no longer work, but I would have to have alot of free time to clean up everything...
Well recently i've been encarcerated at my house, haha... I'm trying to read all of them anyways so I can learn more/avoid 'flaming' - So I'm more than willing to start helping, but as a newbie I can only do so much... I'll just start cleaning up and organizing what I can and i'll send you guys the finalized, or just post the forum and tell you aboot it ¦)
