240sx or Acura Integra?
240sx or Acura Integra?
Dear Readers....
I currently drive a 98 Honda Civic EX. Its stock and slow. I bought it because It costed me 2300 dollars, and its KBB value is around 10,000... its an obvious smart investment. The day I sell it is comming very soon....
After selling my very slow civic, I plan on making a very fast import.
Looks DO matter to me.
With my car I would be mostly driving down the road, and somtimes racing other cars on 1/4 mile strip of road.
In my town theres really not A LOT of fast cars. There is a ford mustang GT v8 5.0. I think it gets 14.7 1/4 mile. Theres also a 2.0L Honda Civic DX... its pretty fast.
Basically what Im looking for is reliable upper 13's on low profile rims, and looks really good.
I like taking corners fast as any other person does, but Im not exactly looking for the best handling car as much as the fastest car.
If I bought a 240sx I would want it to look like this...
Im very torn between Acura Integra + turbo.... or Nissan 240sx + sr20det and whatever else.
Im not made of money, and Im going to be on a semi tight budget. I can get a 95 GSR with low miles and a performance head for around 3000-5000 from a friend.
What do you guys think I should do? I personally think I like the way an Acura Integra looks over the 240sx... but I have never seen a 95 240sx with a body kit in real life.
Let me know what you guys think please.
I also put a post in the Suspension forum about 1/4 mile times and suspenion setups used.
Later guys!

first off, welcome.
it's been my experience that a 240 was never really intended to be a dragger. it's better suited for turning rather than straight line speed. i'm not the most technically proficient, but i'm pretty sure that there is no way to get a 240 to run low 13's w/o forced induction (well, no way within most peoples financial means, anyway
). seriously, about the cheapest way u'll get to low 13's would be an old skool fox body 5.0. if u must have an import, ummm, maybe a 3rd gen civic hatchback w/an H22 motor swap?

Well..240s=not a drag car just lettin u know. Unless u got the money for a RB25DET swap then a 240 is not a good drag car. 240s were made for the handleing..in which they own with ahha. if ur wanna go for a good 1/4 mile car go for sum CRX or 92 civic HB. Do the usual engine swap and blah blah blah. Integs are good 1/4mile cars if u trubo em..and yea.
I just recently bought a '95 240 and I love it. It has a lot of potential for more power. The car handles great. Before this I use to drive and own a '00 Civic Si & '96 Civic hb. Both of which were very very good cars. After selling the Si and having the hatchback stolen, i wanted something rwd. I'm not sure you'll enjoy the 240 as much as i have but it is a different experience from your regular fwd honda/acura.
i'm not trying to start an arguement but since when did fwd hondas become known for drag? Hondas IMO are better for autocrossing, b/c of their handling and light weight. I'm pretty sure if you get an s13 or s14 and swap an Sr engine in it you'll be good to go for low 14's or even high 13's. With the usual mods. Anyone correct me if i've mistaken. My thoughts have always been that it is easier for power to push a car from the rear than to pull a car from the front. RWD vs. FWD. Both cars are a good choice no matter your decision, so get what you would like/love driving.

WOW. Did anyone even read what the guy was asking? I've found it to be entertaining to search through newbie forums and laugh at q&a's. He wants a high 13 sec. car. How is that a drag car in any way? Does he care if the 240 was never meant to be a drag car? Probably not. Sheesh either one can give you high 13's w/ an engine swap & simple mods all for under 10k.

hey, Nofx.
something else u might wanna consider for (relatively cheap) quick 1/4's is a MKIII supra turbo (the one right before the lastest body style).
If all you REALLY care about is looks, please, do an integra or something else - I like the 240sx community staying relatively rice-free
The 240sx has anti-squat built into the rear suspension: it's a handler, not a straight line machine. Honestly, unless you appreciate RWD don't get the 240. If you want straight line ability, either go with a 5.0 stang or a 5.7 camaro and you will go faster than most any import for WAY less money. If you must stay import and on the cheap, best straight line will be AWD DSM's. Insane power for relatively little $$$, though not the best of reliability. The compromise is the integra. 240's a handling car, it doesn't sound like you're looking for that.

Thanks guys,
Between an Acura Integra and a 240sx the cost for 1/4 mile time is almost the same, as my guess.
To get into the HIGH 13's with an Integra its going to take anywhere from 3-5 Thousand dollars.
To do an sr20det swap its going to take 2-4 thousand dollars.
Im not exactly sure what it takes to get a 1995 240sx below the 14.7 zone(Mustang Killer) but Im guessing its not more then 5 grand after you buy the car.
The major difference's between the two cars I see are ...
1.) RWD vs FWD
-RWD will launch better
-FWD is better for snow(I live in Minnesota)
2.)Acura Integra is an "at risk" vehicle to insure VS 240sx is not
-5 Speeding Tickets
-1 Accident
It seems like everyone has an Acura Integra or a Honda Civic now'a'days.
If I bought an Acura Integra I wouldn't be able to do the same amount of driving things as I can with a 240sx... like try drifting, or cornering fast.
My question for you guys is after a person puts the sr20det into a 95 s14 240sx... what needs to be done to wax a 14.7 Mustang?
Thanks guys
Oh and does the sr20det mount right in? Or does it take some custom engine mounting
Thanks again

1. integra type-r vs nsx on a road course (FF vs MR, respectively; temple of vtec video)
2. integra type-r vs S15 Silvia on a touge (FF vs FR, respectively; togue showdown video)
the cornering was sickeningly fast.
