Back to 240...

Hi guys, I'm Donna and new to club240

I've recently been driving my '93 240sx again because of a tragic accident I've had with my '05 tC. I began learning to drive on the 240, and got my tC about 6 months ago when on 1/28/06, I happen to be in a rollover accident that totaled the car. I guess the 240 was kind of a "back up" car but now that I'm having to use it as a daily driver, it wouldn't hurt to swap out the decade old OEM parts and since I'm as a newb about knowing what parts are good for the car as I'm new here, I've decided to join the forum since I'll be needing a lot of help.

I'll be sure to do a search before asking any questions, but I'll be looking to you guys to help me through this process!

*edit*
I guess the first thing I should do is check what exactly is under the hood since I know there are some mods on it from the previous owner (we got this car about 5-6 years ago, but haven't done anything to it)...

Thanks guys for the welcomes. It looks like I have a lot of work cut out for me.

As far as the body work goes, there's a noticeably large dent on the driver side and the front bumper area looks like it's doing something it's not supposed to. I took a look at it and it looked as if some bar under it was bent... Would it be a good idea to fix it? (I was thinking of a repaint but keeping the sleeper look)

and as far as my old car goes... this is what happens when you roll a tC through the median...

As long as it doesn't hurt the suspension, I'll leave it alone semi-ugly lol

As with the drop goes... I THINK that it has eibach pros on it with around 1.5" drop, but I think it's settled like crazy over the years. It may sound weird, but I'm looking to raise the car since the front end scrapes up everything--especially the parking lot I park in every morning.

I'd be happy with half an inch or an inch raise in the car with a set of coilovers, and my friend recommended one from H&R. Any other suggestions...?

100% daily driver. I'm not looking to drift nor drag race. Maybe take it to the track once in a while or autox (since people are saying I need experience on gaining control of the car--I totaled the last car from being unable to regain control) but I'd rather have softer coilovers than stiff/hard ones.

I'm not sure how much I want to spend on suspension on total, but my budget is at a third to half of what the insurance is offering for my old car, which is around 5-11k (I know, a big range). The suspension is not an issue at the moment, since I have few other things to worry about like--a new serpentine belt, power steering, new clutch/flywheel, and brake pads. As for the exterior goes that I know for sure I'm redoing is the paintjob and the tints (the hatch glass has bubbled up and it's impossible to see out of). I have absolutely no estimates on how much these will cost me and therefore no idea how much I'd have to cap off for the coilovers.

This is all very vague, but would estimating 6-1.2k for coils be outrageous?

well for daily driving if you want your ride not to be to stiff, look into coilovers that have a lower springrate somthing around 6-8, If your just street driving coilovers should only cost you 700-900 dollars, there are a couple brands in that range tein has some, megan racing, stance, k sport, and tanabe has a couple models that are in that range. Id recomend megan racing, stance and kts.

MR is prolly the best bang for ur buck and no $1200 isnt outrageous (i spent 1400 on my Flex) but for daily driving, i would spend around $700-$900 for coilovers.

that should be straight. i should know, i had to pull out a similar dent on my passenger side when i bought mine. from the front view pic, you need to push it in and pull it down. should be fairly easy to do it yourself

Yeah, I noticed that so I posted the pic and asked about it. It's good to know that I could fix it myself (as long as it doesn't require too much arm power...)

Anyway, as far as coilovers go, I'm thinking of getting just a swap on springs since it'll only be for daily driving and the drop is a bit of a problem for me. I haven't decided yet but I was thinking either Tein S or H techs. I have no clue what the drop is on the car right now, but I only want it .5-1inch raise to clear the parking lot I enter everyday.

On a different note, there's a rather large dent on the driver's quarter panel. I'm getting the car repainted soon but is it a MUST to get it replaced/fixed before the repaint job? I'm not looking to restore it to a perfect condition or to look as pretty as possible, lol. I just want to clean it up a bit and not be such an eyesore anymore since I honestly think it's a beautiful car no matter how you look at it. Except for the odd foam spoiler maybe...

Coilovers will ruin your suspension. I wouldn't really mess with that kind of stuff.

Welcome back to the dark side though. Nice to have yet another female on the boards.
