Smile Clueless newB Riiiight.... HERE! :)

Hey guys. You just got a new annoying newB! I'm a kiddie. 15 years old looking for a car for when he get's his license (16).

Just wanted to say "HEY GUYS!" and to ask you a question.

I'd like to know what those intake/intercooler thingys are that go on the front bumper. They look kind of like grates. My father calls them "Bottom breathers." He's a 'vette guy though. ('99 red hardtop C5 sitting in our garage.)

My intuition tells me its some form of forced induction that runs to the intake. (I consider scoops to be forced induction.)

What are these called? What do they do? What kind of increase of HP would I find at what physical speed? Etc, etc, etc.

I'm pretty sure I know how it works. I just don't know the name of it. I'd like to find links to one so I can see how much they are etc.

And also, it's good to know that I"m not the only 15yr old on this board.

Re: OK

welcome. what i think ur talking about is the intercooler. from my understanding, it's purpose in life is to cool the charged air from a turbo/supercharger before it enters the intake. cooler intake air=more power (the reason why people get cold air intakes for their non-turbo cars). oh, and:

Oooohhhh yeeeaaaah. That's what it is. I pulled up some Google Images for "intercooler". That's the stuff.

What kind of increase in horsepower would I find with a 95 240sx + AEM intake and some high flow exhaust system.

Welcome to the forums
From what I hear, you won't see much of an increase with those mods

welcome...

im 16 as well...gettin my license in january...i also have a 95 240...

u will probably see anywhere from 10-20whp from a CAI and exhaust...but make sure the exhaust uses smaller piping as ur car is not turbo'ed...

feel free to Private Message me any time about anything...

Thanks for the guys!

One other thing, how the hell do you find your 240sxs? I can't find any good ones. All auto, 100kmiles, or hella old. (I'm looking for a 95 240sx SE 5-speed)

Any choice websites etc? yes I checked the boards.

S14s are pretty rare...espically good condition ones and ones that are manual. Good luck
