I guess I will help you out, felling helpful tonight.

1)In CA it wont pass smog, there is the visual test and the sniffer. It will pass the Sniffer test, but NOT the visual test.
2)Once they see that you swapped the engine to another one...they wll laugh in your face and let you go.
3)DMV
4)You need to get a crooked smogger...pay under the table. Thats the only way right now, so good luck.

BTW, welcome

Question?

so it will pass the visual? even if it has the custom brackets for the engine mounts? i heard if they saw the custom brackets they would have too deny the pass or something!?
soo they will just laugh at me and let me pass i can live with that ...what about smog? i read the basics on swaps it mentioned changing the stock exhaust and headers too 3in . will that help or worsin the smog on the car? i also heard if i use high octain 91 and change new spark plugs it would help the smog ?!.?
plz reply thnx

I said NOT the visual, its illegal period. CA sucks period, You will never pass smog with any engine other then a KA. If they see that its a different engine, they will not even bother wasting time and let you go. Again, ONLY way to pass in california is to pay for a crooked smogger, which is anywhere from $75-$200.

first off, welcome.

so JynX, they're not still doing that thing where, if u get caught, u have to go to a referee or get ur car taken and/or crushed?

Dont know bout the crushing part, but Im 100% sure they are doing the refree things. Was that one of his/her questions? The cops are even stricter now, From what I heard even if they hear something that remotely sounds like a turbo they can pull you over and check under the hood.

yea are u serious they can pull u over if they hear a turbo blow off valve ..........!
dude..... soo is driving around in an s13 in cali a good idea!?
i want an s13 soo bad but now that im hearing all this, im starting too rethink my strategy....
i dunnno what should i do..cause i like i have lots of plans for my shop -Robotek Motorsports- i was gona make a project s13 with an RB20DET but i was told that RB20DET is out of the question cause they wont pass on it! but i heard if i swap an SR20DET its ok? cause we could use the same brakets(just for the visual) then after install then custom brakets.
my friends say that doing an sr20 swap is the best way too go if i wanted to do the swap.
what should i do?

yea if any body wants too drop by my shop Robotek Motorsports we sell nearly every thing now...JDM,Jspec, motorswaps ,bodykits, full coilovers(TEINS),rims and wheels and many more..etc..
well for the peeps that live in OC california!
we are trying too change our shop from ghetto too one stop everything u need type of thing. im planing on doing the s13 project for my shop and more of course does any body have good ideas !?

Once again, any engine other then the KA in a 240sx its ILLEGAL and they can write you up for it and send you to the refree and make you get a smog with actual trained professionals. Even if you swap in a SR they will notice that it isnt a KA and wont smog you. Please search further...Ive answered the same question like 3 times =/

PS. If you arent willing to take the risk of having a SR under the hood, then dont do it. The consequences are quite harsh, that is if you are caught.
