I need a second opinion

I am 14 and I love cars, they're my life, and I've always dreamed about having a 240, and nows my chance. My mom's getting a new house, and soon she'll have room for a second car. Every one in my family knows that I love imports. My mom also knows that I love imports, and thats why she's willing to buy me a 240 so I can work on it every time I'm over.
I would like an opinion on what year I should get, and what mods I should probably do(other than the basic bolt-ons)thats affordable and doesnt bring the gas mileage down too much, because i still have to pay for everything except the car. Please respound.

i would tell you if i knew which was better but i dont... i mainly think its a persons personal opinion.. i liked fastbacks and was able to find one with good mileage. I am a pround owner of a 91 240sx... A lot of people have 95 and 90's.. i might be wrong on that too

test drive a few and see what u like best

Thanks for the welcome. I like the body style around 95, the only problem I have is finding one with a reasonable price, the lowest thing I've seen around here is 4500 for a 95.

get a 95, its going to be hard to find a 95 for cheaper than that lately due to the increase in popularity of the 240's...

Any 240 will be hard to find for a really low price. s13 isn;t kidding when he says 4,500 is a good price for a 95 in good condition

Keep looking around for one with a decent price and at the same time maybe you can convince your mom to increase her price range. 4500 is a good deal though for a 95. Look EVERYWHERE. Look in your local newspaper classified section.
Look online at
autotrader.com.
craigslist.org
cars.com
Look at the for sale section on this forum and other forums as well.
Good Luck with the search.

And welcome to the forum.

what everybody else said, find a '95 and figure on spending around 5k for it~ just be very thorough in looking over the mechanical aspects of the car prior to purchase. I got lucky and found mine for 3k, but I ended up spending another 3G's within the next 6 months because the car had some serious clutch problems... well that and I kept on going to the damn wrong mechanics.

I got into 240's when i didnt know what drifting was. (i though it looked like a us skyline) I never got a 240 for drifting. And the way the import scene is going these days im starting to hate drifting. Welome to the forums btw. My best advice is just to keep looking and ask people you see on the streets because chances are they might be for sale. 4500 is about right but you should be able to find a good deal one day. Just got to keep searching.

I did...Ever since I saw a s14 like 7-8 years ago...And buying a Honda isnt such a bad idea...I wouldnt mind an EG...There is no replacement for RWD though.

I dont want a freakin' FWD

dude, I love the power in a RWD car, the feeling is just incredible, and I've always loved 240's, I don't give a **** about drifting, I watch it and stuff, but so what. I'm not gonna get into drifting or anything just 'cause I want a 240. I want one because I want something that not many people have, and something that people look at and say"Wow, dude, that guy must love that 240" I'm getting a 240 because I freakin' want one. And any one who bombs on anyone else for wanting a 240 is obviously insecure, oh, and by the way, You said "buy a honda good gas milage" either way I'd get crappy gas mileage. only your basic bolt-ons would give you better gas mileage, if you do anything else serious to a honda, the gas mileage will go from 40mpg to 20mpg just like that. Who's the smart one now?

Chad, you just jhave to keep looking. I got my 95 for $1000, only problem is that it had a blown motor. If you are only 14 and have 2 years before you can legally drive the car why not get some mechanical knowledge to. I have a total 0f $1700 wrapped into my car and that includes the car, replacement motor with 101 day warrantty, and all the parts and gaskets for the engine that need to be or should be replaced. Only downfall is that my car is an auto but I can always find the parts for a 5 speed swap later. Also try not to let people get to you too much they are only trying to help even though they shouldnt be so quick to pass judgment on someone they dont know. If you really want it dont rush it, take your time and one practically fall into your lap. just keep on looking.
