i am new to 240 sx's but not to to cars.. i just picked up a 93 240sx 5spd in a trade for some grand national parts.. it runs really well but it seems to have a little top end engine noise towards the back two cylinders sounds like maybe a exhaust leak cus it is on that side... upon further inspection it only has 1 bolt holding the back part of the manifold on... problem solved..

i have a couple questions...

1 are there any Comon problems (particular to this car i should look at before i put this on the road

2 are there any cool cheep mods or upgrades i can do to make it better... thanks

you have a 94 5 speed? 94 was all convertible auto's, unless of course someone swapped in a 5speed

 

1. If your no noob to cars, you should know what you should check out / perform maintenence on before the car is street-worthy. Check out all the general wear items on cars, and fix your exhaust leak.

As you'll learn, KA's are pretty stout engines, just take good care of her.

2. Search the forums for free/cheap mods, I'm sure it has been covered many times before.

Also, what s13 240 said, if your car isn't a convt. it isn't a 94.

 

ok i fixed all my typo's so the original post is easier to read..

upon further inspection (and with the obviuos absence of a soft top ) you are right this car is a 93 (i was told it was a 94 and i didn't really look). i just got it friday and i haven't even really drove it with the exception of bringing it home. the exhaust leak is one problem.. i could smell a little clutch in 5th gear. but other than that nice little car.. no rust or anything the rear spoiler is pealing and the paint is dull..

my question was about comon problems to thes vehicle in particular (for instance on my bmw the ball joints go bad around 60,000, on my kia minivan you better change your timing belt before 50000 otri will break before 60000.) stuff like that..

this car has 100,000 miles on it what is the life span of these things..

another thing i notced is that i get a little back fire and black smoke when it is cold.. any thoughts

i traded the guy what amounted to about 300$ in parts so i don't mind putting a few $ into it..

what ever help you give will be appreciated..
