The reasoning behind the Sil-eighty from my understanding was that most kids driving the mountain passes would wreck their front ends, so they'd replace it with the Silvia front end, which was cheaper than a new set of pop-ups.

It may be folklore, but I thought that was a pretty cool story...lol. It's what I've heard.

Im pretty sure thats the reason behind it. Plus it was really cool. Until everyone did it and SR20'd and bough 13s. Gawd I hate teh n00bs.

yea thats the story i read, i guess onevia evolved from the rich jap drifters who could afford a new set of pop ups every couples months who wanted something different, lol

The drifters crashing their cars is how it started, but they realized that the silvia front end is something like 40 pounds (iirc) lighter than the 180sx front, so I guess you could say that it is functional.

thats and nissan used to build its cars like lego pieces.
now it just builds that like ****, and all based on the maxima.

yea its not really a big deal to me .. i still have my us OEM fenders, hood,
flush lamp steup and v9 style bumper all in the same white paint you see on the silvia front but never installed since paint.
