New guy

Hey, just thought I would introduce myself. I'm not a troll so don't worry about what car I drive. I have an interest in all cars, and have been comtemplating a 240/sr20det for a while now. I'm tired of wrong wheel drive. I do have quite a bit of knowledge about engines, and a pretty good knowledge of turbos. I've been around DSM's for a while now, and am a moderator on one of the Club DSM boards. I've contemplated an AWD DSM or a 240, and I think I would have more fun in the 240. Don't get me wron, awd launches are the best, if you've never ridden in an awd car when they launched at around 5000-6000 rpms, you just don't know what you're missing. I just like rwd better for an all-around car. *drifting* I am looking to learn about these cars and hopefully have one of my own soon enough.

Come on man. You are a mod on Club DSM and you can even pay attention to our forums here. I'm just playing. Welcome man. My boy has a 91 AWD Talon TSI and it is sweet. If you are looking at an engine swap you should look into an RB25 Swap. Night, a guy on this forum, is real cool and could hook you up. Sr20 is a nice fit if you are looking for a little more speed but RB is they way to go if you are looking to beat up on most your DSM boys.

I've thought about the RB, and read most of the info that Night has posted and looked at the pics. It's just a bit more pricey than I'd like to get into though. I'm shooting for a 400ish hp goal and hopefully 11s. That would be enough to beat the fastest DSM I personally know. I think his best run was a 12.2 but he hasn't tuned anything yet.

Really...it would HAVE to be a project car. DSM(Diamond Star Motors) should stand for Doesn't Start Much. WHEN they run, they run great. I've had mine for 10 months, and it's been down for different illnesses for 6 of those months....and that's a daily driver. I've actually just had bad luck with this car, they can be made to run well, they just have a propensity for breaking at the most inopportune time...like when you're 200 miles from home and have to drive the whole way back at 2000 rpms in 5th gear. Yeah that translates to a whopping top speed of 50mph on the interstate. 5 hours from Atlanta to Nashville....fun stuff. A few friends and myseld have decided that the only reason people get them is because of the DSM community. Has to be the best bunch of guys and girls I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. About the only cars we look down on are the ricers...and if they're fast they still get SOME respect. Our last meet had a WRX, 240 with an SR20DET, BMW M3, and an S2000. The guy with the S2000 was going to bring his Euro Spec EVO VII, but it's in California getting a clutch put in.

It is when you're supposed to be upshifting. I was humming along on the interstate trying to catch up to some friends, topped out 3rd at about 100mph and DSMs have really sloppy shifters. Long story short, instead of finding 4th I found 2nd. I hit about 8500rpms and threw off both accesory belts and backed the bolt out of the PS pump pulley about an inch and a half. That's why I had to drive back from Atlanta at 50mph. Now I have some weird vibration that has thus far cracked my bellhousing and who knows what else, so once again my car is sitting. Time to upgrade.

WELCOME...WE HAVE BEEN EXPECTING YOU!!!! FOOLISH MORTAL, LEAVE THE DSM, AND JOIN THE 180/SILVIA WORLD!

Hope you like the RWD experience, just stay away from RWD in snow. Our engines are pretty torquy, so slippery weather is only fun when no one else is on the same road as you.

This is my frist FWD car, and hopefully my last. I can't stand it. I'm used to driving RWD in the snow, and am much better at controlling it. To put it shortly, I'd much rather be oversteering than understeering.

I'd prefer an S14...but I am also cost conscious...probably going to get an S13 coupe if I can find a decent one.
