Thumbs up new member

hey, i currently drive a rsx, and i've been looking into starting a project car. i have to admit, the k20 has nothing on the sr20. the fun thing about hondas is the high-revving engines, but the 240 just hauls.

i want to start an sr20det project. woooohoooooooooo!!!

Welcome to the forums

I think I'd rather have a KA24DE-T

why would you have the ka over the sr?

wouldn't the red top sr20 respond to boost better than the ka24?

its something different, not many people do the KA-T, everyone is so quick to jump on the SR wagon and talk all this **** on the KA about it being a truck engine, I think it would be cool as hell to build one and show people how kick *** of a truck engine it is...

Too many legal issues with the SR20. Cops are now being trained to look for that. Just because it came boosted from the factory doesn't mean it handles boost better. I prefer the iron block of the KA. With ARP studs I've never blown anything. Just my 2cents

I'm all about keeping it legitimate and staying legal, but i'm sure even with the sr20det, a person would be able to stay within the legal limits, right?

and i hate trash talking. just drive and enjoy your car. you don't need to be better. props for all you ka20 drivers

edit: another question. can the ka20 handle boost well? i drive an rsx and the type-s and type-r cannot handle boost well. the high compression on those blocks were meant for NA.

It handles boost VERY well. You don't have to lower the compression ratio, but you could. You don't even have to build up the bottom end unless your talking about crazy boost numbers. 10 PSI or more you would have to build it up a little. The SR20DET is NOT LEGAL in the US. No matter what you heard the red top and the Black top are both Illegal to have in our cars. Besides even the SR20 has to be built up to handle anything more than 10 PSI.

P.S. It's a KA24. Bigger displacement

whoops. yeah the ka24. i'm so used to saying k20 because of the rsx and si engine :P

maaaan. the k20a (rsx type-r engine) is illegal in the U.S., but it's possible to legalize it. is it possible to legalize the sr20det?

if you have a friend in a inspection place anything can be legal.

lol, otherwise your stuck hoping that either you know the guy and he's going to pass you, or you hope like hell that the guy doesn't realize it's a JDM motor and accidentally runs another car for your emissions. The only way to get past the emissions thing is to drive your 240sx less than 5,000 miles in a year. That way you don't have to get it tested for emissions (CA: might be different since they are the smog state). And then you still have to hope that the tech. inspector won't recognise it.

I don't know what area your from but at least out here on the Northeast coast, the only people that know about Sr20's are the import fans, or just car fans in general. Most of the guys in the shops are into domestics if anything else so they don't even realize that it's a different engine as long as you don't install it like a jackass. The added bonus here is that practically 0 cops know what a SR20 is, let alone that it can be switched into a 240sx.

If it makes any difference almost all of the 240sx that I know of that have a SR20 installed have the inspections stickers. I know that when I get mine installed in about 1.5 years (have the engine, getting more parts) it will have the stickers too.
