New in So. Cal

What's up I'm from Ventura County. I just recently decided to get smart and leave the DSM world, not really by choice.
I'm Looking around and trying to do some research before jumping into another manufacture so any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure what platform or application I would wanna get into. I'm leaning towards an S13 to turn into a Canyon *****. SR20DET is definitely something HIGHLY considered.

Enough about me, I look forward to learning a lot from you guys!

Welcome! I jumped into Nissans after driving fords (A Focus and now a Mach 1) so there was some learning I had to do. The S13 seems like a fairly simple beast so it shouldnt be tooo much to learn. What Gen and trim DSM did you have? An old friend of mine had a first gen talon AWD running 12.0 in the 1/4.

I had a 1G AWD Talon as well as a 2G AWD Talon, both spun rods and I decided after the second time that maybe the DSM Life just wasn't for me or my wallet.

Here's some pix of both:

The 1G at the Dyno @ only 8lbs with a forum copied tune on an AFC-II put down 273 @ the wheels @ 257 Ft lbs

2G had only a 16G with Type-S BOV

Now. . . Don't say anything but I also have a 3G eclipse. . . It's parked in a garage. It was my first car and I'm a Do It Yourself type person and well that's the car I learned a lot of stuff on.

Cool. I was always impressed with the DSM's and thier capability, but was too big to ever fit in one...

What kind of issues can I look forward to when picking up a 240 or any other Nissan? Differential leaks? Crank problems? snapping timing chains? anything that's notorious or common.

leaky power steering lines. the rubber bushings will be shot (but an energy suspension set is only 150bux & the car will handle soo much better afterward), frame rails can rust depending on where the car was, leaky valve cover gasket, if its a sohc make sure the chain has been replaced cuz it can wear a weep hole into the water jacket & blow oil into your coolant, these cars get drifted all the time, make sure it doesnt have severe damage to the frame and or body, dash's on s13's crack easy & it can be hard to find replacements, seats tear easily, ect. ect. ect. just check it out from top to bottom & look for anything obvious

Given that you're in Cali, I wish you luck finding one with the stock ka if that's what you're interested in. Before you go looking decide if you want a hatch, a coupe, or a vert S13 AND if you plan on messing with the stock KA 2.4l or if you want an SR 2.0l Turbo. In Cali I think you'll actually have an easier time finding an already swapped SR than a stock KA.

I'll more than likely end up going with an S13 just because of $. I don't mind the coupes and will probably get a Silvia front clip and do the swap. I would prefer a hatch just because every car I have ever owned has been a hatch and well, god damn they're convenient.

I've been shopping around for SR20-T, also kinda looking at RB20's also. Either way I go I'm a boosted guy and to be completely honest, I like my car like my women, they have to suck
