Newbie: Hatch vs. Coupe

New to the 240 world but I'm looking at jumping in. Just wanted to see what you guys thought about the U.S. models. Mainly, the Hardtop s13, Fastback s13 or Hardtop s14. Which car has the most potential? Which car should I try to get? Do they all weigh the same? I know that the s14 can fit bigger wheels but the s13s are supposedly better drift machines. I'm looking for a car to build and the 240s look like they're the best option.

Welcome to the forums, this question has been answered many times. There is no "better" model, all are equal in reality.

welcome. please search, it'll help u in the end. here, i'll give u a very basic breakdown:

S13: older, cheaper, lighter, automatic seatbelts
S14: newer, slightly more costly, heavier, airbags

and there u have it.

oh man give the guy a break lol, always referring to the damn search page!! I'll put it flat out to you rburnett, get any 240, any year, as long as its in good running condition, and youll love it as long as you love rwd. if you can afford an s13 get one, if you get a great deal on an s14 get it, as long as its a 240, theres very little chance you can go wrong on it.

Adding to Sil's comments:

S13: tighter interior, understeer, 4 lug, motorized headlights.
S14: slightly bigger interior, neutral, 4 or 5 lug, yellow headlights

I'd say S13 on a budget, S14 if you can swing it. Not knocking on S13's - but no matter what, an older car is always "older".

If you know what I mean.

yeah... im been a victom of this phatom menace called understeer... on more then one occation, and i would suggest an s14 on that alone... there about the same if you want to make them flashy... a stock s14 with rims and lowerd looks pritty flashy to me though..

I've seen a lot of 13's stock with rims looking sweet too.

Dude - base your purchase on what you plan on doing with the car, and HOW SERIOUS you're really into it. A lot of people come out with "...gonna drift, full suspension, nos, engine swap..." etc. and although ambition is nice, most of them end up being on the bandwagon and coincidentally become part of those 240sx owners who make the rest of us look bad.

Not saying that you are - but think realistically from where you stand. Unless you have a winning lottery ticket, think budget. S14's are newer, but if you plan on upgrades, is it worth the initial price of an S14 as opposed to an S13? Then, lifespan. Is this going to be a daily driver, or primarily a performance car? An S13 costs less but the wear and tear on it might become a hassle.

Both have excellent potential - but it all depends on what you're going to use the car for. And I'm tired so I'm going to end this post now LOL
