newbie looking to buy 240. questions for 240 enthusiasts
I am looking to buy an s14.
So far after some research in the forum and some 240 websites I think this is my basic concept:
I want a street legal s14 running a ka24de engine. I am planning to upgrade it maybe with the Greddy turbo kit later on in it's life but I will probably leave it N/A for awhile. I am college student and speed right now isnt the priority, just a good a to b car that i can be proud of. I'll probably start by getting some wheels and fixing the suspension. but thats about it.
I have a few questions that maybe you more experienced guys could answer. I have used the search function for some of them but I just wanted your opinions if you could give them anyway.
1) How reliable is the ka24de? To own for four years, whats a safe mileage limit when buying a new s14.
2) what problems do used s14's usually have so I know what to check for when purchasing one
3) How reliable are rebuilt Ka24de? Who do you reccomend I should see if I need to have the engine rebuilt
4) Is there anyway I can boost legally. Do you know if the greddy kit is Carb Approved?
5) What is the best suspension package for street driving. I know people say shocks and springs over coilovers. But what should you reccomend. Price limit at 1500 so it shouldnt be a problem.
6) Where should I get my 240 painted if needed
The sr20det is not an option. I do not want an illegal auto because I go to college in southern cali and do not want any hassles.
Thanks for your time

welcome
1)The KA is very reliable, you can expect to see 175k-200+k out of it if taken car of correctly. As for the safe milage limit...the lower the better, but I wouldnt go over 120k-140k if you plan on having it for that long and boosting it later on down the road
2)Search on the FAQ forum, you will find the answered there
3)Im sure it will be just as or even more reliable if done right
4)There are some turbo kits that are CARB legal, cant name it off the top of my head
5)Since you said for street driving, shocks and springs are ideal. Unless its ganna see the track, dont get coilovers
6)A reputable shop...ask around.
