hey everyone. my name is chris, and i live near knoxville, tn. ive actually been a member of these forums for awhile, but ive always just read and never posted. about my car; i drive a 1989 nissan 240sx. i bought the car with an exhaust, intake, a pillar gauges, steering wheel, and a bad oil leak. since i bought the car i have installed a '92 front bumper and clear signals, and i have bought fender extensions, dohc tach, dashboard and vents but have not installed them yet. i am a member of a local nissan car group called shift_alliance. there is only 4 of us, and two of the cars arent even running, lol. my main reason for finally posting is mainly to make 240sx friends and for tech support. i hope to have some extra time soon to post some pictures of the ride. its not the best thing on the road, but its my baby, and one day i know it will be nice. thanks for running an awesome forum site guys.

i unfortunately havent had a lot of time to find the leak itself. when i bought it the guy told me it had one but he didnt know where either. i had the car on a lift and there is a good amount of oil on the back of the motor, but it looked like it had been there awhile, maybe from a previous leak. im not leaking any on to the ground, but i know that im burning it. the car smokes when i get on the gas hard or when i first start driving it. after that it stops. ive thought about having the motor taken out and do a reseal on it. but i know its expensive, and im about halfway to an sr20det. im probably going to just wait for that, but if you have a good idea of whats wrong with mine id appreciate any input, thanks.

It kinda sounds like the Rear Main Seal is leaking but if you are saving up for another motor to swap in, Its probably not even worth it to replace/repair

it could also be the valve cover gasket. i didnt tighten mine down all the way one time and the rear of the motor was covered in oil and that was just from one day at autox.

thanks for the tips guys. i am leaning more towards just replacing the motor and not worrying about it too much, but then again you never know how long it can take to save the money and get it here. i also have a question about my exhaust. from where the motor smokes, it has gotten my exhaust covered in black soot. now when i get the new motor, should i get a new exhaust, can i use the same one, or is there a way to get it cleaned out?

I would just recommened getting a new aftermarkert or OEM exhaust. Its better to invest a lil dough into some new parts, especially if you took the time to swap out the motor.

thanks for the advice. i was trying to keep the same one to save money since i already had an exhaust, but ur probably right about getting a new one. and since the exhaust thats on there isnt the one i want, ill probably get a new one.
