Nismo short shifter
is the nismo short shifter any good? i would think it would be, but im just not sure. thanks for your input
Joey |
I just got one and I love it. It was better than my Old OBX Short Shift..and a lot easier to install than B&N.
The Throws are nice, but it's still not as short as a B&N, as long as u get counterweighted knob..then ure fine. Highly Recommend it.:thumb: |
nismo does not make a "short shifter"
i believe they call it a "solid shifter" B&M is much nicer. the gates are close and tight thanks to the helper springs in the housing. nismo shifter will leave you with the same sloppy stock feeling. |
|
how can you tell? I cant tell the differance, I cant tell if its real nismo or not?
Joey |
For one you can tell by the price, and most of the Nismo stuff on ebay is fake, for example:
Steering Wheels Ebay Nismo= $30.00 http://www.coldfire07.com/public/Nismo.jpg Real Nismo= not even sure on the price but alot more than $30, paid $100 for mine(older style horn button) http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...8_117_full.jpg Shifters Ebay Nismo= $75.00 http://www.coldfire07.com/public/Nismo2.jpg Real Nismo= $219.00 http://store1.yimg.com/I/phase2motorsports_1843_714447 Oil Caps Ebay Nismo= $10.00 http://www.coldfire07.com/public/nismooilcap_c.jpg Real Nismo= $70.00 http://store1.yimg.com/I/phase2motor..._1842_36235510 Not all nismo stuff on ebay is fake though, I got my shift knob on there cheaper than I would've at some other sites, I also got my steering wheel on there for pretty cheap compared to new prices which can go for over $200-300. |
yea, most of the nismo stuff on ebay are knock offs.
they prey on nismo whores. please do not buy products because of the name stamped it. do your research and get what fits your situation the best. just a little bit of research (and/or common sense) and even you can tell the difference between the real deal and knock offs. |
iight thanks everybody about the short shifter... where did you get yours from s13 240?
Thanks for all of yalls help Joey |
my steering wheel?
|
o sorry i meant the pic of the short shifter is that yours? if so where did you get it from?

that's pretty much most NISMO stuff for the s13..if it ain't there and you see it on eBay..u better do a lot of researching. Like I'm still researching if NISMO did make a Seat.. S13 240..where did u get that Steering wheel, I would LOVE to know. as goes for the B&N Short Shifter...I didn't want to drop my tranny just so I can have it on..I agree that's it's "shorter" than Nismo..but Nismo took 30mins..and that included me drinking a beer. |

Divisione_240sx: just my $.02, if you're going to put down $200 for a short shifter, get the b&m. for the nismo, you pay for just the shift rod which will be pivoting in your stock shifter housing. the b&m completely replaces the shifter housing which includes the helper springs that make all your shifts nice and tight. in my opinion, b&m is just more for your money. |

wow those seats are expensive  they dont look that good either
|
DAMN! Japanparts.com is gonna make me broke! NISMO EVEYRWHERE!

Originally posted by Helghast and it is B&N like this these guys too? how about these guys? better email these guys and tell them they been wrong for a long time Originally posted by Helghast plus, does those steering wheel fit in a momo hub? |
dang dude you just owned him! lol ya i think ill be more carefull when buying nismo parts thanks everybody for all your help
Joey |
N and M are so close that ... yea..
so for the steering wheel did u have to buy the Nismo Hub too? |
You can use the nismo hub, you can also use a universal hub which is what I have that will fit any wheel that uses 6-screws
|
sweet! I'm gonna go pick one up from Japanparts.com then. THANKS:naughty:
k,bye:wave: |
I just installed the shifter and I like it a lot. There is no sloppy stock feel at all, the throws are nice and short (I have nothing to compare it to though).
I would recommend this to anyone. |
are you talking about the B&M or nismo?
Joey |
with seats esp. for the 240's its not all looks. comfort is important and those things look well padded. and lateral support is another issue which they have decent supports (for us fat amurricans anyway) and fitment is another issue because 240's have a hump on the floorpan nearing the tranny tunnel that makes most aftermarket seat rails a ***** and a half to install. most of the time the bolt towards the front and middle of the car wont go on at all. (and lastly nismo whores would give their left nut for something like the nismo seat ugly as it is) for my effort i would source a stock r32 gt-r seat for the driver side on the 240 and stay stock for the pass. (im all about function) the gt-r seat is well bolstered and the floor pan has a near identical hump so as long as you have skyline seat rails youre straight. and another neat thing is that being that jdm cars are RHD the usdm driver seat needed would be the lesser used of the two being that it would be from the pass. side of the jdm car. anyway hope this stuff helps at least one of you.

2 front bolts on plate a mystery
Originally posted by ConceptS14 i have the b&m ss, and did not have to drop my tranny to install it. I've installed a 'solid shifter', but it was more like it was a 2 piece with loc-tite in the middle hah I've read some quotes where you had to lift the front end of your car to get to the 2 front bolts... but the work area must be tight as all hell.... ~eji |
ya i know what you mean... ive dropped my trans. twice, and those front two bolts are a pain in the ass. if you can install short shifter without droppin the trans, id like to know. thanks
Joey |
its a bit of a struggle, but you can take a crescent wrench to it.
just have to figure out how to fit in there. you can jack up the front of the car and try and get the bolts from under the car, but i actually did it from the inside of the car. |
dang dude thats one hell of a job... it was hard enough for me to do it when i dropped my trans. but if you can do it... its worth a try.
Joey |
Those seats didn't look THAT bad, c'mon guys...I like the black one. The white one can go **** itself.
As far as the shifters...I drove this one kid's Civic before, and the throws were SO insanely short, it was hard to tell if you were even IN gear, or in the RIGHT gear. Thats not how any of these shifters feel is it? (B&M or Nismo?) I want a shifter that smoothly transfers from gear to gear, I've accidentally dropped my car in second from 5th before because of how sloppy the gears are in my 240 as it is. Sometimes they even get caught...I don't know if you guys know what I mean, but it really pisses me off. Just wanted to know EXACTLY how these short shifters you guys have been talking about shift like...I don't want anything like that Civic I was talking about, that was just stupid short. Anyway, any imput would be great. Thanks...:) |
the throws on the b&m shifter are pretty short.
but the shifting is very precise. i find it hard to miss gears. the helper springs inside the housing always return the shifter to center and 3rd and 4th are just straight up and down from there. shifting is very quick and smooth motion, gates feel really tight. |
yyup yup man, thats the whole point of short shifter. shorter throws, my friend has this RSX- type s and he put short shifter in and dam! his shifts are crazy short, but he can also adjust how short his throw can be with a little pin under the boot. tight as hell if you ask me.

rattling
do you guys with a B&M shifter have the infamous rattling? i just got my 5 speed swap done(check out my cardomain page in my sig.) and i chose the B&M shifter...i emailed the ebay store that i bought it from and they told me it was the revised version and supposedly B&M fixed the rattling problem and made a newer revised version. just wondering if any of you guys have the newer version and if it actually doesnt have the rattling/noisy issue...thanks in advance
|
i'm thinkin about just getting rid of the B&M and picking up a Nismo shifter...any input?? thanks again
|
I've read that the new revised B&M has reduced some of the rattling, but some does still remain...there is a fix from another forum though...
the main problem with the short shifter rattling is the metal on metal contact from a few small objects, to be exact the spring and washer that in the meta sleeve inside a metal housing, and your engine and tranny will move at higher RPMs and sending the vibrations to the shifter itself. so what you need to do is stop the metal from touching each other: and heres how you do it: 1. first remove the the nessecary pieces to get at shifter 2. get a small bowl (disposible) and squeze garage door opener grease. 3. take out the sleeves, washers and springs, take them apart and just rub and smear all the greese into and ontop of the small pieces 4. smear a little grease in the metal housing on the shifter 5. re assemble 6. drive |
thanks for the reply...has anyone tried this? do you think it'll work? what forum was that from? thanks again
|
it's from 240sxforums.com, dunno if it works first hand

Super short shifter
Aight this might sound crazy but: You know that "nismo solid shifter" the actual shifter comes in two pieces... the lower part with the ball and the upper part with a heavy metal cylinder, Well a friend of mine managed to use only the lower half of the solid shifter. The shift lever is pretty much 4-5 inches total... the sick part is that your hand kinda goes below the bezel/shift boot... it's sick... and sometimes i can't even tell which gear i'm in, the longest throw from like 1st-2nd gear is no longer than 1/2 an inch ><... if i get a chance i'll post pics. He took a shift knob from a junkyard, drilled where it would screw on to match the diameter of the lower part of the shift knob and just screwed it on.
