I just purchased a '98 s14 and noticed the stock low beams are h1's, they are tiny compared to other lights. Has anyone ever converted these to h4s or does everyone just keep them stock.

y would you convert? its not the size of the bulb if anything its the wattage/ size of the coils on the filiment. h4 is old technology btw. most people keep stock or buy piaa's or silverstars (h1)

 

ahhh....shows how much I know. The h1's don't seem to put out as much light as the 9006's and h4's that i'm used to, but I guess it is just me. Are silverstars worth $18 per bulb though?....

 

you can get higher wattage bulbs the h1s equiped on my car and yours are 55w you can get 110w i think that would give you the best results. they wont appear any whiter however but i think piaa has some with a purple tint which would look kinda cool.

 

What I really want to do is get a xenon HID kit for my car, but I am not sure if they have them for the h1, I know that they have them for the h4 and 9006, so that is why I wanted to do the conversion.

 

a common thing to do is replace the projector lenses with bmw e46 hids or s2k hids and do some splicing/wiring
