Painting Interior console/panels
Hey guys,
I currently have my s13's interior stock brown and I have practiced painting my console black since it was scaratched to hell.
I have asked everyone and I don't know the best way to do this.
Steps I have taken:
1. Sand off previous paint
2. Primer it
3. Sand it with 200 grit or something
4. Primer
5. Sand again with higher grit
6. Once thats all smooth I give it a coat of paint
7. Sand that lightly
8. Another light coat of paint
9. Sand that again with higher grit
10. Give it a final light coat of paint
11. OPTIONAL??? give it a couple coats of cleat coat
I heard it was better to not use clear coat since u can kinda see defects or something when the sun shines on it from differently angles.
I have used Krylon plastic paint, Enamel black gloss, and motormaster paint I think?? anyways.. I dunno what it is im doing wrong. everything looks great, but i can easily scratch the paint with my nail after letting it dry for a couple days. and.. the final coat is smooth but not as smooth as I would like it.
I am thinking of folia tech paint now. I heard its a lot more cash but its good paint or my buddy told me to use car paint that a shop can put in a spray can for me.
1 more thing.. I want my console smooth and glossy as hell. I was thinking of giving it a gel coat like the stuff they use on boats.
What should I do to get it smooth and scratch proof?
Need lots of advice then we can sticky this!!
thanks

hey, hate to break it to you, but NOTHING it scratch proof!
your steps sounds good to me.
just make sure the paint doesn't run, or you get to start all over again!!!!
I wouldn't do clear coat, unless you like the bright light from the sun in your eyes, or your passenagers eyes!

i will take one tomorow its nasty dunno wt#%(#@*% i was thinking its black again in the summer ima probly thinner it off and then paint it high gloss black, silver may stay as a bit an offset but ever since i ripped off the smelly suede from the door panel's my car is so much faster i swear. Oh it looks nice too
if i can find stock parts locally (canada, bc) that would be pimp. im thinking about using glass-lite (fiberglass bondo stuff) and putting a really thin layer on my console so i can gel coat it with black. that would do the trick i think. durable high gloss black.
I'm just glad I found a s13 with interior that looks like it just came off the lot. Oh and I decided not to paint anything and go with all black. Hope to eventually buy some solid black or black and grey racing seats down the line to match it.
wow i have to admit that looks good. I might have to steal that idea :P is that silver or grey?
a guy from the nissan dealership near me said he used a vinyl spray paint and it worked for him.. what do u guys think?
