Question painting my side mirrors and outer a pillar trim to match body paint??????

hey all,

im new to the club. just picked up a 1990 fastback in champagne, with only 97, 000k. and a pretty much mint body. but i want to paint my mirrors and window strip?? not sure what it's actually called, to match the rest of the car like the 180sx it is i believe?. ive got the right paint fcor it in a spray can , and i have a can of clearcoat, and i was about ready to go, until my friend said no matter how many coats i do it'll look like ****, and im better off getting a shop to do it? so im not sure, i have a bit of knowlege in painting. i didn't think it would be too hard.. so any one got any tips, advice and whathave you for making this paint addition a proper one..
thankx in advance

i'm not to fond of paint cans. but if i were you i'd practice on other parts first to see if you can get the desired results. and to see how well the color matches

I have seen painters at dealerships get busy with touchup cans.

You have to be patient. You have to keep the nozzle as far away from the item as you can.

Mist the paint on. You do not want it to run.

Practice on a piece of cardboard or plexi before you hit your car with paint.

Tape and cover everything around the area you are painting. Overspray can kill you.

Paint indoors with proper ventilation. Painting outdoors is asking for a bad job. Wind, dirt and debre will hurt your work.

Painting indoors you need proper ventilation. By the time you start to notice the effects of the paint you have most likely taken too much in and will need to take a break.

Shake the cans. You want the paint to come out in a steady mist. Short strokes.

Take your time. Do not rush. It will be fine.

Guess you can try to paint it yourself, but if you really want it to look proper I am always on the side to go with professional paint. Its something that you can see everyday and also what everyone else can see and easily make fun of you if not done right and especially if it don't match.

But if it floats your boat to spray paint it, then just be careful. But remember what I said.

yeah im not sure im starting to have second thought... anyone know how much it would cost to do it at a shop? mind you ive got the good old canadian money. i have a few places to touch up anyway so imma do that first and see how that turns out before i do anything major. and after that if i do it, ill take off just the right mirror and spend some good time on that and see how that works before i even go near the car. but if it isn't to much to do it professionally, i might go that route.

by the way i got the paint through a store in Toronto that has speficic makes mathed paint, and for the specific year, and model.

thanx for the advice guys. ill post pics when i do it!

To paint just those pieces shouldn't cost more than 200USD Tops I think. and if it is just that much, I would definitely do it professionally. Remember there is no eraser when dealing with paint, except the making for more of a mess.
