Project:StreetSilvia (93 Coupe)

I had a thread going in the general section but since this looks like the forum for builds I thought I'd start a new thread here for the car.
This evening saw the beginning of Project:StreetSilvia. My plan is to take an eBay find 93 Coupe chassis and make an SR20DET Blacktop powered Silvia clone for street/show/possible drift use. I spent sunday trying to get the motor running but after finding a blown headgasket and 40psi compression, I decided the motor is a paper weight and since it will be replaced, there is no point trying to polish the turd (no offense to KA fans). The car was found on eBay in NC and has a good body with no rust and only minor damage to the front fender, a removed/broken rear wing, and some missing electronics/luxuries (radio, cruise, and A/C). So first of all here are a few pics of the car when we picked it up. Attachment 13143 Attachment 13144 Attachment 13145 Attachment 13146 Attachment 13147 |

As stated in the above post I began actual work today. My father and I spent this evening stripping and cleaning out the interior of the car. The interior was stained beyond repair and will be completely replaced. The seats MAY be repaired, given larger bolsters and new foam and then re-covered, or they may be ditched all together for something like Corbeaus. There will be all new carpet, custom storage/rear seat delete, and a new steering wheel/shifter/pedal combo. After pulling the carpet we found mouse droppings and all of the sound deadening material was broken and loose. We were lucky to get the car before the mice setup a permanant home. The chassis is solid though, not a speck of rust anywhere. As a PA boy, I'm used to rust being a major issue.
Here are some pics of the newly stripped interior and one or two of the dead motor:banghead: Attachment 13139 Attachment 13140 Attachment 13141 Old man holding a bag of coins we found in the car during the tear down. I'm not sure if you've done it already, but make your next mod the removal of "L-TOWN TUNERS" windshield banner.

I'm not a fan of banners though I am tempted to get a cheapo "Under Construction" one made so people stop asking stupid questions when they walk past the garage. "Something wrong with your car?" "Why are you tearing it apart?" or the worst one, "When is it gonna be done and drivable?":banghead: |

Nice work so far man, the car looked like a basket case in the beginning. Looks like you are well on your way to getting it completed.
I'm so stoked and want to work on the car but there is only so much I can tear out of the car before I have to start buying stuff to replace it all. This weekend's plan is to get that lump out of the engine bay. I think we are going to strip everything out of the engine bay and then after a GOOD cleaning, re-paint it black to make it look nice in there. I need to decide on paint color for the exterior, I was planing on an Initial D Replica (yeah I know my cred on here just plummited from cool to tool after that.) but I have no idea what the paint codes are for the top section. I'm planning on making the exterior look like Iketani's car with some minor differences accounting for personal taste, and racing experience (a "Mingus SpeedStars" decal instead of Akina, since I used to race on Mingus mountian in AZ). On a side note, I was also told that the Blacktop is a stronger motor for future modding so I was going to go with that over the Redtop. Its only $100 more from the company I was looking at buying it from and even though I plan on keeping the motor near stock, I know myself, and the engine is going to get modded before long. Am I mistaken in this belief? |
Nope other then minor things like o2 sensor and age black top is newer it's the same exact motor. Only the s14 and s15 notchtop have more power and things different

UPDATE:
Last night I pulled the front end of the car off to check the frame and get ready for the Silvia front, once I can afford it. The frame appears to be perfect save for a little mounting tab that is bent. The good news is that the frame is rust free so I will have no major issues to deal with before the engine swap and body work. I will be parting out the front end, and most of the motor, so I will be starting a part-out thread, but if you want something speak up. Without further rambling, here are some pics.
