Rear Hatch Question

Well i'm somewhat one of those type of ppl where they want to extract as much weight as possible from their car.

now with that said does anyone know how much of a weight differnce the Stock Rear Hatch is compared to a Carbon Fiber Hatch?

if it's not that big of a difference then most likely i'm not going to do it, that is why i'm asking.

i know that the main the reason the Fastback 240s are heavier than the Coupes is due to the Rear Hatch Window, but does the hatch itself make a difference if i got the carbon one?

Not sure on how much of a weight difference it actually is, but most of the weight is from the glass. Get lexan glass back there and you will be set.

CF hatch and Lexan glass and bam, less rear weight and weight comparable to that of the coupe, and much better looking I might add.

is there a difference between Lexan and Super Acrylic? haha cause the windows i was thinking about getting one day were the Acrylic Windows from HPI, they have the Door Windows, Rear Quarter Windows, and Rear Window in Super Acrylic.

Actually, the fastback (hatch) and the coupe weights are identical. It's a common misconception that the hatch weighs more.

1991 Coupe Fastback (hatch)
5spd 2657lbs. 2657lbs.
2684lbs (SE) 2684lbs. (SE)

Auto 2701lbs. 2701lbs.
2728lbs. (SE) 2728lbs. (SE)

hrm...are you sure? cause many other forums and from a lot of other people the coupe is lighter due to the rear window on the fastback. may i ask where you got your information on the weight of each?

Hyjinx is right, most weight in from the glass, i was looking at getting a carbon fiber rear hatch, but the hatch alone prolly will only shave a couple pounds, but that glass replacement would help allot, check it out.

I think importfan.com has a cf hatch

If your big into weights reduction, i remeber reading somewhere that a company makes OEM carbon fiber doors, saving like 25 or so pounds on each, was in a modified mag or something, check it out.

My Hatch weight 2770. It's manual and basically an SE with leather interior. The coupe is the lightest 240 out there.

Ok I just checked for the 1989 and 1990 models to see if the figures would be different and I guess the coupe IS a little lighter (only 27lbs) than the coupe for those model years.

Basically I think the weight difference is pretty negligible.

I don't see how they can have the exact same weight if they are different cars. And like I said, my car, with everything OEM on it weighed 2770. I have the paper to prove it.

Well those are the weights from Nissan. Your car probably weighs more than that listed for the hatch because of your leather interior.

Those specified weights from nissan i am sure are correct, you must *** into account, that you may weigh something if you were in it when weighed, ALSO those, when weighted, were without gas. You could have had a full tank of gas, which is quiet heavy, and the leather may tack on a couple pounds, just incase you all didn't factor in driver and gas tank weight and other fluids in your car.

I wasn't in the car. I was on 1/4 tank. It just doesn't make sense that something with a window that large will wiegh the same as one with a small window and some metal. Either way, shouldn't the weight of the car include gas and the fluids. I mean, they are all part of the car.
