Valve covers? How long

How long does it take to take off a valve cover and replace the gasket? I have to do it and i've never done it before but it looks pretty simple. Any tips? And should i paint my cover while i have it off anyway?

How long? About 2 Mins. Just take the bolts off in order, you shouldn't really have to replace the gasket, but if it is cracked and broken then yeah - replace it, bolt it back on in order. You're done.

Oh and don't forget to lube your new gasket with some RTV.

napa is always more expensive than autozone or a checkers/schucks/kragen go to the walmart of part stores for the little parts... my valve cover gasket was 18.99 from oreilleys auto parts store...

if u are going to do more stuff to the engine that will require you to take apart your motor check Ebay for a gasket set. it should be real cheap on there. i bought a whole engine rebuild kit for about $400 and it included a full gasket set (just about every gasket on the stock motor)

and yeh you should paint your valve cover. im painting mine as soon as i stop being lazy and take the head to get shaved and polished (checked for bent valves too). i think l2aine still has a write up for painting your valve cover. (search it, it'll come up)

what i would do if i was you is say bump painting the valve cover take the time and polish it. i polished mine in about 5 hours yea its a lot of work but in the long run its worth it (dont touch the valve cover with your hands you will finger print it and you have to polish that spot again)

Yeah i would go somewhere other than NAPA, theyre a ripoff. Really. Autozone and oreilly have the best prices, ill guarantee that. Also, look for Duplicolor's engine/high heat spraypaints. They work well.. Where i work, we rebuild Detroit diesels, Cummins, all sorta crap that go out on drilling rigs and run 24/7, we use the detroit alpine green duplicolor high heat ceramic paint crap, and it works great.

P.S.this really shouldnt be in the style category by the way
