Vinyl Dye

I've been reading up on how to change the color of my interior and tried the vinyl spray paint on an old honda i am trying to get back to working order. The spray paint work pretty well, don't know how it will stand up to the sun and whatnot. Anyway i came across a DIY about dyeing your vinyl and was wandering if anyone has done this. The article said that it works on plastics too, any experience?

the paint is gonna crack. if you leave it in the sun a lot, the dash is gonna stretch and then cause cracks in the paint. happened to 3 people i know.

a friend of mine did the dye to his whole interior in an accord and it held up for quite a while... it has been that way for the past 4 years and been redyed only once in 4 years... it never cracked and it is in the sun all the time... not to mention the color of the interior was white... so it got hella hot in there...
