yay! finally installed neons under dash.

Last thursday, I locked myself in the car and swore to myself I'd install my under dash neons. So thats what I did. I started at 8, and 5 hours, and 3 blown fuses later, I got em in!! It was my first time doing any electrical work on my car, so it took forever to figure out how I was gonna wire it. I had to remove 2 dash panels and I kept blowing fuses. I ended up going to sleep at 2 in the morning and I had to wake up at 530 the next morning to go to work. But it was worth it! My interior now has a blue glow from the 12 in neon tubes and it looks hotttt. I'll try to post pics when I can get my hands on a digital camera....

If he wants to put them in his car, then I say go for it.

Anyways, I'd like to see some pics of how it turned out.

I dont see how neons are considered rice. Especially since they're on the inside. It's not like I'm trying to flaunt it. I just think the glow looks cool inside my car. I don't plan to do any more appearance mods on my car. My next move will be to get an intake and exhaust. So I wouldnt be so quick to say I'm "ricing out my car." If I wanted to rice out my car, I wouldnt have gotten a 240sx. Do you even know what rice means?

i dont own a honda by the way. Never did, never will. Maybe an S2000....mmm...nah, maybe not.

Rice: noun -- 1) Anything added to a vehicle that is not in anyway related to performance and/or stands out to make others believe that the vehicle is fast and customized. 2) Anything that is added to a vehicle that is an eye sore, taking away from the car's natural/factory beauty.

That is rice--if you don't think neons are rice, then you have a wierd preception.

So any kind of stickers or detailing on a car is considered rice? Even if you have the performance mod that the detail or the sticker indicates? So in that case, every car on the cover of Sport Compact Car or Import Tuner is rice.

Just about covers it. I think small stickers (only if you have the product) could be alright. But for the most part unless your getting paid to advertise for them, it is pretty dumb.

Ok, fine, then with your definition, then neons are rice. But in my humble, new to the car world opinion, I think there is a difference between style and rice. I dont think the cars on the covers of the import magazines are rice. Sure, they have a lot of crap on their cars, and I wouldnt want to drive one of those, but they are advertising speed and whats under their hood, and they can back it up. What they have on their car is style, which differs for everyone. You can love it or hate it. You can put altezza lights on a civic. I don't think that should be considered rice, but it has been because so many people who do that get this "I have cool lights, now I'm cool and fast" attitude. And since everyone is doing it, it has now acquired the "riceness" description.

A guy puts flames on the side of his car. I think it's gay. Well that's his stlye and I don't like it. It's not rice. It's a style thats different from yours. Some people like it, others hate it. If he thinks the flames make him faster, or wants people to think his car is tuned and its not, then gets burned in a race, then thats rice, in my opinion. Anything not related to performance is not rice, its style if your intentions for the mod is geared toward looks.
However, if you put all these performance stickers on your car and dont really have what's shown, thats rice because you can't back it up.

You can apply rice to performance too. If a driver gets a giant wing on his car, just to turn heads, thats rice. The wings are made for racing, and he's mis-using it, thats rice.

When I decided to put neons in my car, I had no intention of making it SEEM faster than it is or SEEM like it was tuned up. No, I put them in because I thought they looked cool. I don't care if other people see them or not. They are for my personal enjoyment. If people see them and like them and compliment me, thats cool, if they ridicule me and say its stupid or gay, thats fine too. You don't have to like them.

Just expressing my opinions on what I think rice means. I think the term is way overused and abused and people are way too quick to judge other ppl's rides as "rice."

Just a recommendation and an opinion: Use your money to make your car faster first then do dress up items. If you have all kinds of money to blow then do it all at once(and give me some money). I just think if your gonna try to make a fast car look fast--then it should be fast before it looks fast.

I think I'm getting deja vu or something, I remember reading a similar post to this a long time ago on a different message board...but yea, I agree with you, I should be spending my money on stuff that makes my car faster. But the neons were cheap and I thought they were cool. I'm saving up my money now for some performance mods. I DONT have a lot of money to blow. Neons arent exactly super expensive and like I said before, I'm not doing any more appearance mods on my car.

I still don't get how people connect neon lights to looking fast.

It's just that most ppl who have them on their car SAY that they can go fast. It has become a sterotype, just like civics with huge wings and altezzas.
