Question and proposal re: thread closure procedures

Once in a while somebody acts like an **** pore on a thread that is of some value. Mods come in and normally the thread gets locked if the offenses are grievous. Wouldn't it be more beneficial to just delete the offending posts (with a PM to the offenders of course) and leave the thread intact? ....and in other cases where the thread has gone completely nuts just delete the thread completely?

...just wondering... not looking to start shiite...

Being such an academic, I like to use proper terminology when appropriate.

Moved to feedback.

The person can always just post again in that thread. Its to bad of an idea, could work. We can test it out.

I just hate it in some forums when I come across a thread that made good sense to me and I wanted to respond and then some dicheads bickering caused it to be closed. Plus....if the thread is worthy of closure why not just delete the whole thing rather than locking it. It just ties up server space needlessly.

I dont have anything against that. If a thread seems to not have resolved any original issues, deleting or editing pointless offensive posts are no problems with me. But I will leave that to the mods to decide on an individual basis.

I know I don't usually close threads unless they are double posts, but what you are saying seems reasonable and seems like the right thing to do
