engine break-in questions

ok im gettin ready to button up my sr20det ive rebuilt im using stock pistons and the rods because their baddass whats the point of changing them i dont really plan on going over 400hp anyways.Ok so my first question IS what type of oil i was told regular non synthetic for the first 500 miles checking every once often for metal shavings in the oil. Then after 500 drain it all out check it and replace it with synthetic. Now how should i drive it i hear drive it like you gonna........umm i drive every car i own like a stole it soo lol i dunno. Others told me to drive it pretty soft no revs over 4 grand go up and down some hills to seat the rings be careful.Im also gonna put a new clutch in it so i know breaking that it will be slow at first.Give me some advice theres so much different information about different motors and even if its about the same motor everyone has a different opinion and im askin some people who have done this before how did they do it and how did it work out. I plan on beating the hell out of this motor eventually.

youll get the same range of opinions here too. personally, i think you should baby it during break in period. ive read articles about beating the **** out of it too, so both sides is arguable. but for the sake of not messing it up, take the low risk route...

dont put synthetic in that motor! synthetics burn out through turbo seals.

baby it until 1000 miles. dont go over 50% throttle, stay under 4500 rpm

change oil at 100 miles, 500 miles and then at a 1000.

ive built several 500+hp honda motors that are still being daily driven to this day 7yrs later on this break-in.

when you first start it though, let it high idle for 25min to seat the rings, then change the oil.

10w30 whatever the **** brand you want. theres only 3 main oil manufacturers and they just rebottle it under diff brands. store brand though is recycled oil and not recommended.

and castrol stains the inside of your motor red.

i use Delo 400 15w40.. but thats bc i beat the **** out of my car and live in FL

oil might be the same but the additives are difference...

stuff like anti-foaming, thermal breakdown, etc

**** all that. you change your oil enough, it doesnt ****ing matter. ever foam up your oil? no. breakdown the oil? something else is wrong. just put oil in it.

well fine, as long as it has an api logo on it. but if anybody plan on changing their oil not so often, id invest in something with a longer lasting formula.

bro just go with whatever brand you like, its all personal preference, if you look at the back(manufacturing) most say "Ashland Oil Manufacturing" all the company's do is put their label on it. it only matters when its a synthetic, or high milage, but you dont need to worry about those. i prefer mobil 15w40 here in fl. but its up to what you like
