SR20 question about horsepower

im going to swap an sr20det redtop into my 91 hatchback and i was wondering and a good horsepower goal to shoot for drift and autocross.. im into racing but i dont like drag racing. but i wanna rly look into drifting and autocross mainly drifting. what kind of goal would i need for drifting.

Stock power is just fine for drifting from the KA. Going to an SR, you won't have to "worry" about power. Swap it in, put a helmet on, shut up and drift.

lol just put an intake a catback front mount and boost it at 12-14psi and you will be happy

240sxnewb91 01-30-2010 11:00 PM

is that to boost the ka or sr?

battosaii930 01-30-2010 11:42 PM

who said anything about a KA? i was talking about the SR.

just get a manual boost controller boost it to 12-14 psi

post before you was talking about stock KA lol. i get confused sometimes.

Thats just Adam, he loves to confuse people from time to time LOL

But yeah, Adam is right, you'll be happy (for the time being) with a very mild set-up. Once you get the hang of driving, you'll start to do more. But I would recommend to build for reliability first vs power. Dont want to run a huge amount of boost on a stock block.

I would def look into building suspension and brakes first though. I always recommend being able to turn and stop before going fast. LOL

very true lol. i am looking into a sr20 swap tho. seems more reliable and im getting coilovers soon as i get money

Biggamehit 02-04-2010 09:02 PM

seems..... nothing is reliable when you beat the hell out of it.. trust me. learn to drift first and then worry about power.

I could give you my skyline or KA-T s13 and take a stock NA automatic FR car and out drift you becuase once you learn you can apply to all cars and power has no factor really.

Unless you are pro sometimes.

Taka Aono is a big example of using little power. He's only got about 200 hp at best and can still give JR a run for his money in that new falken mustang. Its all about the driver.

Thats what SHE said...

Ask any drifter, any real drifter... It doesn't matter if you have 1 horsepower or 1000 horsepower. A drift is a drift.

Whoa, bustin out the F&F lines already? I havent even warmed up yet lol
